ABC Local Radio

ABC Illawarra hasn’t had its local Drive program for the past week and start of this week.

The statewide presenter who has been airing instead said something to the extent of “ABC Illawarra is still experiencing technical issues”.

I’m not sure if the local Breakfast and Morning programme has been broadcasting. I’d imagine these “technical difficulties” must be major.

Jess Maguire is a top presenter, I hope she stays on ABC local.

Illawarra breakfast and mornings shows are still broadcasting. You can find them on ABC Listen app.

ABC Evenings NSW had a WIN News Albury journalist on tonight giving an informative update on local news in the region.

Wondered why they didn’t use a local ABC person.

TV Blackbox reported tonight that ABC Radio news will go mostly national over the upcoming Easter break (WA will still receive local bulletins on mornings), in order to cut costs.

Very poor form given the broadcaster had received federal funding boost in the past couple of years.

To be clear, after a decade of funding cuts by the coalition. It’s not like the additional funding enables the to do more. just keep the lights on.

Also nothing ever happens over Easter (and if it does, you can scale up as required).

Do other NSW regional stations have local Drive? In Victoria, 3LO has its own in Melbourne and everyone else gets a “statewide” Drive.

I wonder why?

Newcastle does.

I think only Newcastle, Wollongong and Sydney are the only NSW ABC stations with local drive.

I think the Newcastle and Wollongong drive programs were also the “Statewide” drive programs at different times in the past as well. Not sure where the Statewide drive programs are presented from these days.

That would make sense as we all know NSW stands for Newcastle Sydney Wollongong

Forget the Newcastle and Wollongong bit. It’s No, Sydney Wins, or No, Sydney’s West.

This spin is essentially a lie from ABC.

My reporting is true - one reporter in each newsroom and national news and radio bulletins. I don’t see how that means they are fully operational?

ABC backflip

The ABC appears to have backflipped on a plan to scale back and run national news bulletins across TV and radio over the four-day Easter weekend in all markets except Perth.

However, the ABC told Weekly Beast later in the week that planning is still under way and it expects to do only two national bulletins over Easter. Local newsrooms remain fully operational, a spokesperson said.

There was a section in the Blackbox-obtained email that said something to the effect of “let us know the plan by week’s end”, which is Sunday.

So nothing has been set in stone.

ABC Sport Daily has been removed from the schedule. Evening programming now begins at 6.30 pm.

On Monday nights:

  • 774 ABC Melbourne airs AFL Monday with Corbin Middlemas and Ben Cameron from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm.
  • 702 ABC Sydney and 612 ABC Brisbane airs NRL Monday with Andrew Moore from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm.

I remember listening a few weeks ago, PM was on then a news bulletin at 6:30pm over to Australia Wide…. Usually I’d only hear Australia Wide when I’m listening to Central Victoria but for whatever reason I had 3LO on that evening
