That’s good he’s been held to account so quickly. Unless you’re Gina, I doubt the wheels of the ABC would work so fast if it was your family.
That aligns with the Melbourne schedule with Sammy J from 5.30am to 8am, and Virginia Trioli from 8.30am to 11am.
Sarah Macdonald moves to ABC Radio Sydney Mornings in 2023
Popular ABC Radio Sydney broadcaster Sarah Macdonald is moving into a new extended Mornings show in 2023.
Sarah has been presenting Radio Sydney’s Evenings for three years and will take up her new Mornings presenter role from Monday 16 January.
The new Mornings show will start 30 minutes earlier, at 8.30am on weekdays and run through to 11.00am. Breakfast with James Valentine also starts 30 mins earlier in 2023, kicking off at 5.30am and running through to the 8.00am news and AM at 8.05am.
Sarah said she was “honoured and thrilled” to be taking on the Mornings slot.
“It’s been a show I’ve listened to and loved for decades and I relish the opportunity to tell Sydney’s stories and talk to our communities about what matters to them.
“I was born in Sydney and have lived here most of my life and I am passionate about what makes this big beautiful, brash city tick – the people, the places, the culture and the challenges we face. I’ve absolutely adored presenting Evenings for the last three years across NSW and the ACT and am always energised and astounded by the ABC Radio audience insights, contributions and camaraderie. I look forward to waking up to new days with our legendary listeners.”
ABC Radio Sydney Manager, Steve Ahern said: “This city wakes up early. The change to our Breakfast and Mornings start times will allow us to respond to the rhythm of the city and to connect people with what is happening while they are out exercising, travelling to work, on shift work, or preparing the family for the day.
“James and Sarah are both familiar, trusted voices. They will help our listeners start their day with all the news, information and connections to Sydney that they need each morning.”
Sarah started her media career as a cadet journalist in the ABC Newsroom. She went on to become triple j’s political reporter and then presented triple j Mornings in the late 1990s. She left to live in India where she wrote the best-selling Holy Cow which has been translated into several languages and became a travel bible for that country. Sarah returned to the ABC in 2017 to present the national Weekend Nightlife show on ABC Radio. She has presented Evenings since 2020. Sarah co-presents the Full Catastrophe, a storytelling event, podcast and book. Her other books include So You’re Having a Teenager.
Sarah’s replacement in Evenings in 2023 will be announced shortly.
When did Steve commence in this role?
Explains why Radio press release info & Radio yesterday have lost their way without his guidance for Peter and Wendy.
ABC Radio Perth has been having transmission issues on their regular frequency this morning. So are currently broadcasting on the Perth RN frequency of 810 AM instead. (Facebook)
Brett Sprigg said on the end of ABC’s coverage of First Test tonight that the 720 AM frequency in Perth will be off air tomorrow (Friday) morning from 1am to 5am for maintenance.
According to their Facebook, it appears the problems have likely been caused by a lightning strike to the transmitter.
Without reading the article as it’s blocked, what’s the issue with him doing that?
Just read the article, he claims his Twitter account was compromised and resulted in his account showing “likes” for that type of material. It doesn’t seem to be clear exactly what the ABC are investigating though.
basic rundown:
for over a year his account has “liked” thousands of trans porn images - presumably not realising that likes are public.
earlier this week, steve wanted to interview a TERF on his show and this was rejected by management. somehow (and i’m not sure how) the planned interview came out, and steve was asked why he was fine with sexualising transwomen but was willing to platform someone who wanted to give them no rights.
steve proceded to crap his pants and stated mass unliking whilst on air, whilst claiming a hack. this was overwhelming and eventually he deleted his account.
i assume the hack claim is whats being investigated
Me thinks it wasn’t a hack…
Twitter thread with some receipts of his extensive liking of transphobic posts, he wasn’t exactly bringing a neutral viewpoint toward the proposed segment/guest, so their views would likely have been given a very sympathetic hearing.
The juxtaposition with his likes of porn on the account, followed by the hilarious cover up and “hacked” excuse is amusing, but the core of the issue for the ABC shouldn’t be if that is appropriate for a work related social media handle, but rather his attempt to platform hateful views unopposed.
Given a similar thing just happened with a horribly biased Media Watch episode, the ABC need to get a grip on not sliding into being like the BBC on this.
Suzanne Hill is replacing Naidoo on Weekend Nightlife.
Suzanne’s been playing second fiddle to Indira in that role for quite a while now (esp. when Indira was away writing her book). She’s a welcome & obvious choice
