ABC Local Radio

….but it’s not that old.

Changes to regional ABC local radio in Victoria. As we’ve observed in the ratings threads, ABC regionals just don’t seem to resonate with audiences. I wonder if Kendall will continue with the conversation hour or if that slot is looking at a change.

Which isn’t a surprise, so much if their regional radio content is very hokey win news type crap. I know my family in regional Vic prefer 774 for Virginia and flick over for local news as needed.

A newsier country breakfast program with more resourcing for online would be a good outcome.

I remember the days when many regional stations used to have their own Drive (and Late Afternoons as it was known back then) shows.

When was that? I always thought these were mostly networked from late morning onwards.

Until 2005, there were four separate drive programs in Victoria, from 4pm-6pm. The 9-11am slot was networked.

Right, so they flipped? I don’t recall that thanks.

Yeah, Kathy Bedford was doing mornings but then went to drive; local mornings shows stayed for a bit and then got eaten up into Brekky.

(Places like Mildura and Horsham shared with Bendigo, Shepparton with Albury etc)

So if I remember correctly, during the 1990s and 2000s, most regional stations usually had two blocs of local content; breakfast/mornings, or breakfast/drive.

Many stations usually used the breakfast/mornings bloc up until the 2010s, when I believe they were rolled out.

Here, use this link for better reference. I think it’s pretty navigatable:

Cheers, I’d forgotten that era, guess it’s going back a fair way now!

Interesting that Horsham appears to have relayed Radio National in the evenings.

I notice that Lisa Leong has been filling in for Jacinta Parsons on ABC Melbourne on weekday afternoons for the past two weeks. Lisa is the host of This Working Life on Radio National.

Wasn’t she (Lisa) the former Port Lincoln Breakfast presenter?

You are correct. Lisa presented breakfast on ABC in Port Lincoln before moving to Melbourne, according to her ABC bio.
