7flix - Programs and Schedules

I was thinking exactly the same thing.

Wiki has updated the information on 7 HD and the new channel. It says the new channel is unlikely to arrive before March. The AFL season doesn’t start until 24 march.

I have also read sources that channel 76 is more likely to be a lifestyle channel. If the sources are right I’m prepared to put a name on the new channel

7HOME

that’s if it becomes a lifestyle channel.

Wikipedia isn’t the pinnacle of accuracy.

If it’s a lifestyle channel, I will be extremely disappointed.

Or what about

7YOU

or

7CHIC
(since a Lifestyle channel would be aimed at females, and be a ‘sister’ channel to 7mate… ??).

This is what seven has in mind. Seven nearly always try to compete with Nine.

If this is true I won’t be surprised to see another lifestyle channel.

With regards to how you say the channel name though, you don’t say I’m going to change over to “British Broadcasting Corporation” now - you say ‘BBC’ so I think it works ok.

Makes sense. It’s a cool name. No reason 7 could not use it too. There are a million channels out there with News, Sports, Movies, Music, World, Life, etc tagged on the end. BBC does not own the word “Brit” - especially for a UK themed channel.

7 - flagship
7TWO - younger, sport, US drama, comedy
7Brit - older 55+
7mate - younger male

Is a joke that Australia is pretty much the only country in the world where the Australian Open can’t be seen in HD.

Obviously things are set up a bit differently there and legislation has held things back but what I also don’t get is how the broadcasters haven’t been able to improve the efficiencies of their allocated multiplexes on Freeview over the last decade. Here even without changing to MPEG4/DVB-T2 we’ve gone from 4 channels per mux about 14 years ago to at least 8 per mux (think the maximum is 13). The HD DVB-T2 muxes which broadcast in MPEG4 can air 5-6 HD channels and the same again in SD.

As for channels it would seem that what is missing from channel 7’s portfolio is a channel targetting younger and especially female viewers.with 7Two clearly trending older and 7mate supposedly male.

I do think though rather than launching a new channel for the sake of it they’d be better off playing the HD card and biting the bullet and switching 7, 7Two and 7Mate to HD (MPEG4), with an SD simulcast in MPEG2 of 7. A few might lose out but I think the benefits outweigh the cons - and they’d love being able to advertise that all their main channels are in “crystal clear HD”. Can’t see Seven doing that though, but wouldn’t be surprised if Ten did.

yep bingo - hence why I really want them to focus on a family channel - they have so much inventory that would fit that style of channel.

Great post.

I do agree with the idea of converting 7, 7Two and 7mate to HD, except that we would see an even bigger “outrage” of when Nine went HD, despite the fact that no one lost any channels then.

In this scenario, those same people who complained last time would lose 2 channels.

Ok. My first guess was way off…so my second guess is that the new channel will launch on Feb 7, but will be heavily promoted from Feb 1 particularly through MKR. Let’s hope…

No news on Prime picking this up yet.

There’s no news on even what this channel is going to be yet!

I know but I live in hope. Sick of that “coming soon” sign. Lol

You don’t have to sit there and watch it for endless hours. Use your remote. :stuck_out_tongue:

They really should change it to “Coming a bit sooner now” (or something like that)… to give us all a bit of hope!
