Does the same apply to the Tasmania, Darwin and central markets?
It’s already running though…
If anyone is wondering what 7flix has done to the bitrates:
7 Digital- ~1.85 Mbps
7Two- ~1.73 Mbps
7mate- ~3.37 Mbps
7flix- ~1.70 Mbps
TV4ME- ~419.62 Kbps
RACING.COM- ~1.05 Mbps
If the streaming is anything to go by, 7flix will be the same feed for all of regional QLD - On the PLUS7 streaming, the same stream is being called for all regional QLD locations.
Also, currently the best quality for all 7flix streams metro and regional is 360p, the other metro channels have up to 504p (but only 360p for all the regional channels).
Why do the regional areas get a lower quality on Plus7 ?
TV4ME seems extremely low. Would it be blocky (Can’t check due to my tv antenna issues).
That has to be incorrect. All of those channels would be unwatchable at those bitrates.
That can’t be right surely?
7Flix is terrible quality on all my TVs compared to 7 Digital and 7TWO.
Seems that the TSReaderLite readings are off.
Here are the bitrates from 30 second recordings of each channel:
7 Digital: 3.54 Mbps
7Two: 3.10 Mbps
7mate: 7.67 Mbps
TV4ME: 1.40 Mbps
7flix: 4.11 Mbps
RACING.COM: 2.25 Mbps
The bit rates must be different here in Regional QLD. Here in Townsville, 7flix is much lower quality than Racing.Com and 7 Digital.
Having New First Run Content Four Nights a Week at 7:30 is a Start at Least with Once Upon a Time, The Muppets, The Mindy Project and The Amazing Race, But 7flix shall air New Eps Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, How to get away with Murder and The Goldbergs Once the Channel’s Popularity Grows.
Quite a good little interview with the 7flix channel programmer: http://www.mediaweek.com.au/movies-in-the-spotlight-for-new-multichannel-7flix/
I actually think the channel will do what it sets out to do and get its share of the advertising market relatively quickly with the general entertainment/US shows mentality though younger than the UK shows and slightly older general entertainment of 7TWO.
What’s with all the capital letters?
BUT THE GOLDBERGS, SPW!
The 5 minute average rates for 7 Sunshine Coast when I checked were
7 Sun Coast 3.75 Mbps
7TWO 2.86 Mbps
7mate 9.54 Mbps
7flix 1.19 Mbps
TV4ME 1.08 Mbps
RACING.COM 1.90 Mbps
And for 7 Brisbane 5 minutes later
7 Digital 4.94 Mbps
7TWO 3.20 Mbps
7mate 7.12 Mbps
7flix 2.65 Mbps
TV4ME 1.08 Mbps
RACING.COM 1.90 Mbps
Assuming that these figures are typical across every market, it’s rather interesting how Seven Queensland allocate more bitrate to 7mate while Seven in the capital cities try and make the SD channels look better.
UPdated to a 30 minute average
And for 7 Brisbane 5 minutes later
7 Digital 4.17 Mbps
7TWO 3.75 Mbps
7mate 6.99 Mbps
7flix 3.00 Mbps
TV4ME 1.08 Mbps
RACING.COM 1.90 Mbps
Even though 7Flix has had its bit rate almost doubled, the picture quality of the loop has remained the same low resolution.
It’s 720x576 which is the same as 7/7Two, for comparison TV4ME is 528x576 and RACING.COM is 640x576.
When the 7Flix promo loop started, the quality was very poor but I put that down to the low bit rate. Now that that has increased, there has been no change in the look of the loop so it must have just been a low quality render. The capital city bit rate it has been given plus the MPEG 4 technology should have it looking about the same as their other SD entertainment channels.
Love how they describe a show that ended 18 years ago as a “modern comedy”
