I am only just watching it now and I can see things like Hey Hey It’s Saturday being in the wrong field order, combing on others and a lot of low bit rate YouTube encodes and then I see this at 47:40 on the YouTube video:

I’ve got this, and the Herald Sun series too, which I think was a cut down version of this.

There seem to be a few stories going around about what happened. One story was that it just wasn’t recorded, for whatever reason.
According to Gerald Stone’s book Compulsive Viewing: The Inside Story Of Packer’s Nine Network, another story was that the opening night speech was recorded but in the hustle and bustle of that period the kinescope recording was somehow lost or misplaced, needing it to be reconstructed a year or so later.
Wait, that is a rare logo! 9DVD. What other DVDs used that logo?

It was a 6 Disc DVD Set with the Herald Sun version mate there is more footage on the official version of 50 Years Of DVD.
There was This Is Your Life Unforgettable, The Best Of The NRL Footy Show 2006 and Brisbane Broncos 20 Years we’re some of the DVD releases to have the 9DVD Logo Nicholas.
How accurate is this quote that is seen a lot. Given that AFAIK the sound was at 10,000 watts.
it was published in the book Those Fabulous TV Years by Brian Davies, published for the 25th anniversary in 1981. The 100,000 number might be a typo?
100,000 is correct for vision - audio should be 1/10th at 10,000 - was later on for all stations AFAIK.
When TV commenced in Black & White, the broadcasters had an ERP of 100kW on the vision carrier, and 20kW on the audio carrier (refer ABCB Annual Reports).
With the introduction of Colour TV, the audio carrier was reduced to 10% of the vision carrier (i.e. 10 kW), to prevent interference on the PAL colour carrier signal IIRC.
