This would be the show that Patti Newton mentioned in an interview with Joel Creasey recently.
Looking forward to this show. I hope it’s done properly. As sometimes, these “clip shows” can be repetitive.
Would be nice if Patti Newton is involved somewhat in this.
… Bruce Gyngell told me it was Frank Packer that insisted on him telerecording at least one live program a week when TCN started, Bruce reckoned that it was a waste of time, but then when the first anniversary was coming up, Frank told him to produce a special using all the clips that he had made - the one key thing they didn’t have was Bruce saying “Good evening and welcome to television” from the first night, so they restaged it for the special and it has been used ever since - you can be sure it will make yet another appearance in this show!
Great to see Nine is marking the occasion this time with a proper program - when they turned 60, they just aired a few retro idents.
He also slightly altered the phrasing with “Good evening and welcome to cable television” when Optus Vision opened.

yeah but remember the 50th, that was a huge event, so many specials.
Channel Nine aired 2 Primetime Specials for 50 Years Of TV there was 50 Years 50 Shows in 2005 hosted by Eddie McGuire and 50 Years 50 Stars in 2006 hosted by Mike Munro they also a replay of 50 Years 50 Shows in 2006 with Mike Munro as host.
It’s a shame that 7 didn’t expand the Top 20 countdown and clips from the Logies based on the TV Week poll. Maybe they could still make a 60 minute special Top 70 shows from the past 70 years, as a collab with TV Week.
I didn’t think of that. But agree that Seven should have had a Top 70 show, during the week (or two) after the Logies. Easy to fill the one hour slot with the countdown A wasted opportunity, I say.
I hope this Nine Special will also feature all the networks, and not just be Nine based (which i think will be 95% of it).
Since we know that Part 1 is airing, I do wonder how many episodes there will be?
And “Good evening, and welcome to multicultural television,” when he opened Channel 0/28 (SBS).

When Channel Nine aired the 40 Years Of TV Primetime Special in 1996 they had archival footage from all TV Networks.
I have to wonder with the upcoming special, how much of it will be ripped from YouTube and not from an actual archive
… given how extensive Nine’s archive is, highly unlikely …

While Nine has its own archive, the question is how it will source content from other networks. Some will depend on who owns content still and if it is readily available. WIN would be a potential source.

Hopefully it’s not a Sydney centric view of television from TCN only.
