63rd TV Week Logie Awards 2023

“Most Popular” is not a measure of quality.

They seem to have favoured people who have stretched across multiple shows, maybe trying to cover lot of program bases??! Leigh Sales, Osher, Kruger, Morris.

Mark Coles Smith seems to come from nowhere. But the Logies have never been immune to trying to sneak in the occasional “dark horse” nominee – although they could probably have settled on someone that at least some of us outside of Mystery Road’s niche audience are aware of.

Virginia Gay for ‘After the Verdict’ is interesting too.

Alone Australia made the cut for most outstanding factual or documentary program. It premiered on March 29 this year, two days before the eligibility period ended.

Its the Logies after all. Always making dubiois choices. Lol.

I would have thought Kitty Flanagan would be more popular than those ABC personalities.

Ever since the networks got a say on who they nominate, there seem to be names they are pushing to promote shows, rather than the ones that are actually popular with viewers.

Nine probably couldn’t be bothered with Tracy because they don’t really have future plans for her whereas the ABC do have plans for Leigh Sales and just announced a new season of Mystery Road with Mark Coles Smith. Plus, remember that scripted series can be low rating in overnight broadcasts but can be huge after 28 days and streaming viewers are added.

Ten wouldn’t have pushed for Dr Chris Brown, Carrie Bickmore or Pete Helliar because they all left the network, which to me is wrong, but that’s what they do. Whereas the ABC are still proud to put Shaun Micallef and Leigh Sales up for nomination even though they left.

I must be wrong but I thought each station was supposed to nominate two people for Gold.

I think the networks put the names forward but ultimately TV Week decides which six names to put in the category. So previously there were Foxtel personalities there but this year there are none.

Did Seven show any of the non-Seven people?

Nine quick of the mark

Other people? No - only Channel 7 people were nominated! A couple of ABC’s noms got a mentioned in one cross but I didn’t notice any other networks’ stars nominated being interviewed.

Interested to know if long-time former rights holder Nine have much coverage and genuine interest in this morning’s announcement and how they will go about it (whether to try to ignore it as Seven started to do in later years - until they nabbed it or still show effort in covering)?

Nine had an in studio interview with a nominee

It’s a bit ridiculous that a reality show contestant is nominated for “Most Popular New Talent” although there is some talent in what they do on the show. The really ridiculous thing is that there is also a Love Island Australia contestant in this category.

I suspected Hall of Fame was more likely than Gold

I thought that contestants weren’t allowed to be nominated for a Logie - even in the new talent award.

This award used to be dominated by soapie stars.

There are three actresses from Heartbreak High and Surviving Summer. I would have allowed more actors from the same shows rather than restrict those nominees but allow contestants from reality shows.

Celeste Barber nominated for Popular Actress? I havent heard of her “Wellmania” show on Netflix. Nothing against her, but hope Julia Zemiro or kitty Flanagan win for Fisk

Good to see Lynne Mcgranger & Emily Symons nominated. They are both the most deserving of the win IMO
