Easy then. Unfollow.
âI was talking to my wife after the speech, and she said there was a great moment right in the middle when you said that there is one thing that the Logie can stand for and that is just taking the piss, enjoying yourself and everyone should lighten up,â Gleeson told Today.
âShe said, âYou really had the room there, and it would have been great if you finished thenâ ⌠she was right I should have finished then.â
Tracy sounds miffed because she was favourite for Gold last year when Tom Gleeson boosted Grant Denyerâs campaign and this year missed out on being nominated entirely.
I think those bagging tom need to grow the hell up.
Despite what those in the industry think, the logies are not the be all and end all. it is, for the most part a mutual wank fest that means stuff all to most people.
Most people donât remember what they had for dinner last week let alone who won the gold logie 2 years ago.
Tom played the numbers and he won. The gold is not awarded to the Best person on aussie TV - Itâs awarded to the most popular. if you donât like get - get them to change it.
All the bagging such as Tracyâs above comes across (at least in my mind) as someone angry that an ABC personality won an award that ârightfullyâ belongs to one of the commercials.
His opening speech was great, hilarious.
His acceptance speech was cringeworthy and awkward⌠but thatâs Tom.
People are saying that the Logies is dead, but how good has it been good seeing some quality Dramas and Actors winning the Logies of late, instead of the usual Home and Away (and cast)? Weâve had Mystery Road and Wentworth win Popular Drama in the last 2 years. This year, Deborah Mailman won the Popular Actress award, with Luke McGregor win the Popular Actor.
Some comments here and on other sites say that how can some shows win when no one watches them (like The Project winning Public Affairs; Masterchef beating MAFS in the reality award etc), but no one mentions Dylan Alcott winning New Talent for his role on The Set, which almost no one watched. lol.
Tracyâs sanctimonious editorial had me in stitches. Gleeson entertains the audience while Tracy introduces vapid, trite, sensationalist pablum for the functionally illiterate five nights a week and thinks she deserves a Gold Logie for the rare noteworthy interview Nine allows her to conduct for the show.
Waleedâs interview with Gleeson reeked of sour grapes. I thought The Project was meant to present news in an entertaining way? Here we have Waleed taking the high road and looking down his nose at Tom because his campaign to win the award was entertaining.
Yes his campaign was entertaining but his acceptance speech went too far and he said in the interview on The Project he shouldâve stopped half way through the speech.
Iâm aware. I watched the interview before I commented.
I donât think he went far enough. The lack of awards for the commercial networks only served to reinforce Gleesonâs assertion that the industry is dying. They arenât entertaining and engaging the masses in the way they once did and Iâm hoping this will be the wake up call for them to lift their game. The attitudes of the likes of Tracy and Waleed would suggest people at the commercials are out of touch with the audience and are in denial.
Iâm actually surprised the award winners reflected some of the Australian content I watched this year.
Thatâs good that you are watching The Project.
I only watched that interview. I tend to avoid the show unless theyâve done something noteworthy that makes the headlines.
Why include Waleed in that? He wasnât doing an opinion piece on The Project like Tracy did.
Itâs Waleedâs job to ask questions that other people might be asking, even if they are contrary to his own opinions or beliefs. Thatâs what a good journalist is supposed to do, no matter what their own opinion might be.
It was Pete Helliar who commented on his win earlier on The Project and said that Tom lost the room during his acceptance speech.
Congratulations to Ten with a program line up last night that featured three shows in a row that won in most popular categories at the Logies and HYBPA that also won in most outstanding.
Instead of entertaining the audience and having a bit of fun with it, Waleed decides itâs a serious issue that needs in depth, probing examination.
âA lot of the subtext to the whole campaign was kind of undermining to people whoâd really worked hard in careers on TV for a long time who maybe did want to win it ⌠Do you have any sympathy for those people?â
Whatâs he trying to suggest with that? Gleeson hasnât worked hard to get where he is and isnât a successful comedian/entertainer? Last I checked Hard Quiz attracted a much bigger audience than The Project. Pickering and even Bickmore wouldâve had a sense of humour about it and wouldnât have conducted an interview that reeked if sour grapes.
sorry but i completely agree with jbar on this
That was only one question though. Other questions were quite light hearted. I really donât think the interview reeked of sour grapes at all. That doesnât seem to be an objective view of what was shown.
As he himself admitted, that still doesnât make him the âMost Popular Personalityâ in Australia. It just proves that he was able to manipulate the media and voters to make it so. Heâs not the first to do it, but his campaign has been the most blatant.
He also dragged Amanda Keller into it questioning if Gleeson had sympathy for her. That would imply one should have sympathy for him given he was also a nominee. Sour grapes.
Well, her name came up because she commented earlier in the week about Tomâs campaign being spiteful. It was part of the story and Waleed wasnât the first one to ask him about that.
He had similar questions about Amanda Keller thrown at him earlier in the day from a number of media outlets, from breakfast radio with Fitzy and Wippa onwards.
I didnât disagree with that. Gleeson ran a successful campaign that entertained and captured the attention of the audience. He proved what we have known for years- the Logies can be manipulated. Gleeson was transparent about the manipulation and went in hard whereas others no doubt relied on network publicity departments to do their bidding for them. Still manipulation.
