61st TV Week Logie Awards 2019

Gleeson’s acceptance speech should be the highlight of the night if he wins. I wish someone at Nine had the sense to ask him to open the broadcast. I’d love to see him carpet bomb the room with put downs of our so called stars and industry leaders who constantly fail to deliver worthwhile entertainment.

What a joke ‘Most Outstanding Reality Program’. This list is embarrassing if they are the ones judges have chosen.

Made the news!

I was actually surprised Seven had a story on it.

As was Joel Madden and he won.

More embarrassing was Scott Cam’s win.

I wouldn’t think so. At least he was on one of the highest rating shows. The lobbying from Nine is the usual thing all networks did. Seven doesn’t give a damn about it any more so any nominations are amazing these days.

They are but what really is a joke is that this category even exists. Yet, there is no Most Outstanding Comedy category now for scripted shows.

So TV Week are happy about having overseas viewers of neighbours voting?

Clearly not, judging by the carry on and the lame defence from TV Week. But really, what’s the difference between overseas fans voting for a show/people they actually watch, and people here in Australia voting for a show/people they may have never heard of, but vote for them because of some social media campaign?

They haven’t really stopped people from overseas viewers before. It was practically impossible in the past because you needed a coupon out of a TV Week magazine to vote.

Since voting moved online it has been possible for anyone overseas to vote for Australian series and actors. That’s been true for quite a few years now.

With Neighbours now screening in different countries at the same time the buzz online and on social media has increased. I can see more shows with overseas success, benefiting this way: Masterchef, Wentworth, Bondi Rescue etc.

can’t they just geoblock any votes not from an AU location

But do people from ovsrseas really care about the Logies?
Most Australians dont care about the Logies either.

But i do agree that it shpuld be for australian voters. An au location needed for the future? Including for the live voting the week before this years logies?

But why would they want to block overseas fans getting involved in the awards? Isn’t it to their benefit if they can extend interest in their magazine and awards further afield?

Should Australians be prevented from voting in British of American polls or awards online? I’ve participated in some for my favourite overseas shows.

Entertainment is becoming more global these days.

If the current rules for the Logies require voters to be located in Australia, then yes overseas voters shouldnt be able to participate.

Im not convinced that opening up nominations/voting to overseas voters is advantageous - it only serves to benefit shows like Neighbours that have a significant overseas following

This is from the story on NewsComAu.

…according to TV WEEK editor Thomas Woodgate, the votes from overseas fans weren’t taken into account.

“Look, I did see that certain actors and actresses on the show were encouraging people from overseas (to vote), but I think what people probably don’t know is that Roy Morgan manages the verification of all the votes on behalf of the TV Week Logie Awards,” he told news.com.au.

“What happens is once all the votes come in, a very detailed verification process is put in place, and what that does is eliminate all invalid votes, and that includes any international votes from that final tally. They make absolutely sure that only votes with valid contact information from local voters are valid. We here have full confidence in the process,” he said.

The Gold Logie Award is for the Most Popular Personality on Australian TV, so how is it possible an actress from Neighbours, which has roughly 150,000 viewers each night (five city metro) on Ten Peach, landed a nomination?

Mr Woodgate said Morey received a boost in votes after her Neighbours character, Sonya, died from cancer in a moving episode that aired in March.

“The timing of the storyline was incredible,” Mr Woodgate told news.com.au. “In week one of voting, Sonya passed away so heartbreakingly on screen.

“Her performance was excellent, she was so emotional in the episode and she deserves the plaudit. She did a fantastic job.”

I assume that means they can check the IP address of voters and not count those from the UK.

As discussed numerous times, the Logies should have an Outstanding Comedy Program. There have been more scripted comedies of late, particularly on the ABC and on Foxtel. Even more “variety-comedy programs”.

Eg - HYBPA is nominated for Outstanding Entertainment Program, and Popular Comedy Program this year. Two different genres (altough quite similar).

Told ya! They would also need VPNs right? Surely the company dealing with the votes looks at IP addresses?
