59th TV Week Logie Awards 2017

Studio Ten’s ratings are, on average, <50% of the breakfast shows yet it is nominated as is the host.
A similar thing occurred when Christie Swan was nominated for Gold. Ten obviously vote like crazy whereas Nine and Seven couldn’t be bothered.

Also, everyone has a chance to vote. Nobody has to buy the magazine to do so. So anyone that complains about the result, we can assume that they voted?

So true. It’s a lot fairer these days where you’re not compelled to buy the magazine to fill out the voting form. And you need to provide an email address when you vote so that limits the number of shonky votes that may have gone on in the past.

I have complained about the nominees in the past when it was obvious TV Week or networks were skewing the voting a certain way but this year I believe it looks more of a fair dinkum geneal public selection, across more shows and networks.

Great to see Upper Middle Bogan make the cut.

Still think they need to separate Comedy from Light Entertainment. I don’t believe Upper Middle Bogan should be competing against something like The Voice or Family Feud.

I think in the case of Studio 10, their viewers really love the show whereas the other shows have viewers but not fans. Probably goes for many categories; people might watch a show in large numbers but don’t think it or the hosts or actors are worthy of nominating.

I think there is a problem with the nominations. They should be as follows:
The most ‘popular’ presenters :

  • Karl Stefanovic- Today, The Verdict, 60 Minutes, “The real reason I left my wife” (premiering on Seven later this year)- Nine Network

  • Samantha Armytage- Sunrise, every women’s magazine every week- Seven Network

  • Amber Sherlock- Nine News Now, #jacketgate lead actor- Nine Network

Most Outstanding News Coverage

  • “Samantha Armytage wears granny knickers” News.com.au
  • “Karl’s mistress revealed” Woman’s Day

I thought that it was The Daily Mail which did that appalling Samantha Armytage “granny knickers” story.

Not at all. Have never voted. I dont really care tbh. Nor am I tearing any ‘traditions’ down.

I just think (as do many others) its lost its way. And the Gold noms show that. It should be big name stars of current TV - making big impacts. Which I dont believe more than half on this years list do.

But let them have their night.

So who do you think are more deserving @Troiboi ?

Are there even that many “big name stars” left on TV given how prevalent reality shows are on commercial tv? I’d never even heard of Rodger Corser before I saw this list… I don’t watch drama on TV but it would be nice to see it go to one of the actors nominated instead of a presenter.

Well, reality shows have hosts, presenters, judges and they can be “popular”.

Studio 10 went hard with their campaign to get nominated. Wouldn’t surprise me if both the show and Sarah Harris won their categories purely off the back of their aggressive campaigning.

It would be really interesting to see how different the list of nominees would be if the networks didn’t campaign for certain people and shows. It just seems like people vote for who the networks tell/want us to vote for.

Sam Johnson was nominated on the back of a campaign by his sisters, so if networks didn’t campaign, it’s likely that some groups of fans would step in to fill the void.

In December, the 38-year-old actor’s two sisters appear to have ‘tricked’ him into going offline for the weekend, in a bid to secretly post a call-out for Logies votes via the family’s charity Facebook page, Love Your Sister.

I’m shocked that Carrie Bickmore nor Asher Keddie are nominated for Gold :open_mouth:

Must be the first time in years?

Carrie won her first logie in 2010 & Asher won her first logie in 2011.

My pick for the Gold Logie is Waleed or Pete.

Either TV Week’s online team (whatever “nowtolove” is) doesn’t know their own awards night… or there will be no industry-voted “Most Outstanding” Logies handed out on the night… or the Hall of Fame…

TV Week just became part of the “now to love” website this week. That’s a terrible name for a website. I want to know was the wanky person who was paid a shedload of money to come up with that concept.

TV Week originally had a good website but they had started to focus on social media like Facbook, Twitter and Instagram instead and neglected it. Then in recent times their website just diverted to the Logie Awards site and seemed to carry different content to the magazine itself.

I was wondering whether this latest change would be an improvement but maybe not.

Herald Sun says today the Victorian Government has reviewed its backing of the Logie Awards, with a division about future funding. Sources have said the Logies had offered little financial return for sizeable outlay from taxpayers. If Victoria reduces its financial support then NSW can snatch the Logies, given all the TV networks and Foxtel have their headquarters in Sydney.
The current contract expires after this year’s awards on April 23.

it has been at Melbourne’s Crown for over 20 years. A change in venue is needed to make the awards less dated. Spruce it up once in a while (change to Sydney, change of networks, having a host… etc), even if it is just once every 5 years.
