Good to see some new names in the mix this year and great to see a lot less Home & Away.

Despite all of TV Week’s lobbying for the actors from that show, there was only one nominated for Best New Talent. :joy:

Could they possibly finally take the hint and feature more about other shows which are obviously popular with viewers? Great to see people like Rodger Corser, Richard Roxburgh, Craig McLachlan, Deborah Mailman , Marta Dusseldorp and Samuel Johnson nominated amongst others who have been nominated often.

Peter Helliar’s nomination for the Gold Logie is farcical. 60 Minutes getting nominated for the child abduction story would have been less of a farce.

The gold logie is a popularity contestant. The last two years we had Waleed Aly and Carrie Bickmore winning. Pete’s on the same show.

To me, I think most of the nominees are deserving this year. The one that sticks out to me as being out of place is Jessica Mauboy for Best Actress. I think she’s a brilliant singer and has a lovely personality but her acting abilities were not “best” to me.

This is the big problem with the logie awards renaming the Most Popular categories as Best. I would have no problem with Jess Mauboy being nominated for a Most Popular Actress category but Best Actress, I don’t think so. And while I think Tiarnie Coupland is fantastic, I don’t think she should qualiify for Best New Talent because she starred in a children’s television series Worst Year of My Life, Again! in 2014. They shouldn’t keep ignoring those shows/roles.

Same goes for the Gold Logie. When it was clearly for Most Popular Personality, you understood why those people were nominated.

Out of the six up for nomination, I would really like to see Rodger Corser or even Samuel Johnson take the Gold Logie this year. They are the most deserving IMO. I would hope the likes of Pete Helliar didn’t win it. Do we really need to make it 3 from 3 for The Project? I think not.

I’m getting over these awards because they are becoming a joke and I don’t have too much faith about the voting system. That being said, I would love Samuel Johnson to win the gold Logie. Great guy who was outstanding in Molly.
Hopefully not one of the footy shows to win sports, I’m hoping for Monday Night with Matty Johns.

What part of the voting system don’t you have faith in?

These are the Most Popular Personalities on Australian TV?!

As each year goes on, I’m starting to understand why some people want the Logies either given a major relaunch or end for good!

Who would you suggest are more popular @SydneyCityTV?

I think that the nominations are better overall than the previous years.

Glad the Scott Cam isn’t nominated for the Gold or Best Presenter.

No Home and Away cast in the Popular Acting Awards for the first time in many many years. These acting awards have a great amount on nominees, and hard to choose a winner.

Not surprised to see the two Footy Shows nominated. But would be awesome if The Matty Johns Show wins.

Why do some categories have six nominees (Gold; Best Drama; Outstanding Actress) but the rest have five?

Ten in all sorts of trouble ratings wise but nominations galore. Go figure.

Look, I’ll admit that it’s good not to see a single nomination from breakfast TV. But I question whether those six people nominated are really the most popular personalities on Australian TV. This isn’t anything against the nominees themselves, but rather the voting process.

IMO, the Gold and infact all Logies should be awarded on a mix of popular votes and praise from within the industry for a fairer outcome but I strongly doubt this will ever happen.

Surprised to see season 2 of The Code nominated as one of the best drama series for the country last year; doesn’t say much for what the jury must think of the rest of Australian drama. Less surprised that they chose the poorly received Cleverman.

The ratings for Breakfast are small compared to the rest of the shows nominated. I would say the majority of Australians never watch Breakfast television. Most of the people in my workplace start at 7.30-8am and never do. On top of that, who says any of the breakfast presenters are popular these days? :stuck_out_tongue:

But that’s the thing, it’s a popular vote and it always has been. How would the industry compare an acting performance with a presentig performance on a show. It wouldn’t work.

Huh? I don’t get this, he has been a staple of TV since 1999. What is so shocking about him being nominated? He’s on TV every night, and is a very popular stand-up comic. Surely that’s more than Scott Cam had other than a hit show.

Again, it’s “most popular TV personality”, these nominations make sense.

How is this even still a thing? The Gold noms is a joke at best.

Why do people want to tear down traditions?
