2SM 1269 Sydney

With Talkin’ Sport surely they can’t leave a program which rated in the low 1’s in Newcastle to continue for much longer. Chris Smith was also only ahead of a few ABC stations from memory.

It is boring, one dimensional radio. Take away Albo, Islam and coal and Chris Smith wouldn’t have anything to talk about, but he’s not on his own at the network.

They really do need something radical if they want to make it viable and listenable.

I would buy 2SM, Magic 1278 (rename it to 3XY) and somehow bring back Stereo 10 and create the Hot Hits Network focusing but not limited to 70’s and 80s. It would be far more high energy than the current Gold and Magic formats and play more one hit wonders, album versions and less middle of the road bland music that we are currently subjected to on Gold & Magic. Have some cool jingles too, unlike the repetition of the Smooth jingle which are really offputting.

I would listen , sounds like a good format. Please make sure the DAB is as high res you can get it to be  .

They’d be great for regionals - keep the network from 2HD for network airtime.

As for 2SM and Sydney metro listeners, the station needs bigger names like Luke Bona, Jason Morrison, etc. who are hiding behind the curtain, left as fill-ins. If 2SM could be the Samsung to Apple… the 2UE to 2GB… there is surely room for it in Sydney, as there was for many years before 2GB shutdown 2UE as a talk station.

To think back then that Sydney had 2UE, 2GB and 2SM… these days, it’s just 2GB and 2SM. So with the right marketing, there is an opportunity for those who don’t agree with GB’s structure and views.

Agree with all you say except the presenters.

I think Luka Bona might work in an evening shift, his style is too light for daytime. Jason Morrison is fixated on the same topics, very boring, I heard him on Saturday talking about the same old same old.

Jason Morrison probably doesn’t care until he gets another permanent gig again.

I’d look at mixing music and talkback. A Gold style playlist, more 80s and 90s and try and get a more diverse audience. One more palatable for advertisers and women.

People like Tim Webster and less like the breakfast moron. Make it a fun listen that can get serious and newsy when it matters and really focus on people about the news and people of Sydney.

Vega was a good idea that’s worth trying again.

Would certainly be a good change for regional markets where they are on FM.

Yeah, but 2SM/SRN has to stop the “one song, one caller, one song again” fomula. How hard is it to have a producer and do a proper talk topic, then move on?

The 2SM/SRN announcers really need to learn about show structure and not just letting callers direct the show (outside of Tim Webster and Chris Smith).

I always thought Chris looks like Beavis.

Reminds me of this

He had a caller discussing Sharia Law today, saying it was misogynistic system, which I do I agree, but then I thought really the bloke that gropped women fancy that hey…

It’s all dog whistleing to his base, the amount of Muslims that really want sharia law and rule the world to remove all infidels is minuscule, as far as I can see he’s got nothing going, and as Muslims don’t drink maybe he should go visit a Mosque perhaps even do a broadcast from one,pfffft:rofl::rofl:

Beavis would be more intelligent than Chris.

Imagine that…an AM talk back station doing a OB from a mosque. I’d pay to see that.

I did hear Chris mention there’ll be a fair few OB’s coming up in 2026. Good on 2SM for doing this.

When would we find out if 2SM’s rejoined the ratings survey?

When the next ratings survey comes out I’m tipping…

Can SM just join at any random time? Or do they need to kick off 2026 as part of the ratings?

They could broadcast live from the morning prayer speakers on the roof that everyone loves to complain about, wow whata inclusive show of togetherness.
