Sounds like they are worried about Jones joining 2SM so are trying to discredit him so listeners don’t follow him to 1269?
Yeah I agree with most of what Ray said. I don’t agree with what Alan says on the covid etc. It is important the topic does have some debate though. Not sure on his points on that arrested protestor with his mother not knowing where he was etc. Might need some fact checking. I don’t think they should be protesting anyway.
On his rant about ratings and Alan not having much success on sky, I think it was a bit of a dig what Alan and John said about how they won thousands of ratings, when John was at 2ue ( Ray was already ay GB) it might have been only been one survey he beat Ray? As well as all they seem to talk about was the Karl and Jackie O show winning the breakfast ratings. It probably rubs Ray up the wrong way.
John Laws surely only would’ve outrated Ray Hadley very early on?
If my memory of that Ray Hadley episode of “Australian Story” on the ABC back in 2013 is correct, Hadley outrated Lawsie in pretty much every survey from about 2003/04 until The Golden Tonsils left 2UE in 2007!
Yes. Except for Survey 7 (which was a tie), John Laws outrated Ray Hadley throughout 2002, as well as in Surveys 2-4 & 8 in 2003.
Well the website is back? No different from before. I got too excited about seeing a nice shiny new website. It has one great ad, I am so happy they finally have a brand new LG phone with DAB built ! . I might buy one.
The sad thing is, LG have pulled out of the smartphone market so that “World’s First Smartphone with DAB+ Digital Radio” ad is outdated now!
Even the website it links to is now a redirect, since Commercial Radio Australia shifted their branding from “Radio: It’s A Love Thing” to “Radio Alive” a while back.
Found one for sale on ebay . I did have one until I dropped it and it broke. The DAB reception is average, I recommend buying a Sangean radio instead unless you like the idea of having all in one media player/phone.
2SM are having technical issues now. Strange one. 2SM DAB have no ads instead just dead air. 2SM 1269 is playing music in the ad breaks.
They did admit on air they had a blackout, as a result no 530 pm news was aired as the systems are coming back online.
Yeah still dead air now on 2SM DAB+ . They seem to have similar problems every few months. Not paying the bills again? Yikes … how can I listen to Graeme Gilbert now??
You and his 4 other listeners could probably just have a Zoom call.
The internet reception is a bit dodgy in parts of India though…
I need to say it - I am quite happy and enjoying the overall sound & lineup of 2SM between 5am-3pm weekdays.
Marcus Paul = Listenable & is actually a rather impressive radio program (he’s on the ball)
John Laws = What can we say. He’s still the king
Brent Bultitude = He has improved enormously since first starting at BOG many years ago.
Unfortunately, Talkin’ Sport, Talk Tonight, Talk Overnight & Weekends is all the same old same old Super Radio sound.
Hey there. Thanks so very much for the kind words. It makes it all worthwhile. It’s a solo show (no producer) and a passion, and I hope that’s coming through on the air. It’s still a learning curve and I have a long way to go - but have plenty of time. Our only indicator is on-line streaming hits and they sit at more than 200K each week on average … so I think slowly but surely we are providing an alternative to Ben who obviously does a great show! Thanks again for the words of support I genuinely appreciate it. Marcus Paul
@Marcus_Paul Didn’t you have one before? Justin? It’s amazing there’s a news and agenda driven commercial radio station breakfast show in a major metro market without a Producer.
Do you have a number on the monthly session starts for your show @Marcus_Paul ?
Not at hand, but I can ask the boss to collate for us.
Cheers.
Justin is now looking after general operations … and the station is sounding good. He’s doing some great promo’s and updating our ‘repetitive’ adds and ensuring we are improving. I have a phone operator, but of course we run on a very small staff. I’m OK with it to be honest, It means I deal directly with the talent we chat to. Sometimes it gets a bit full on … so many calls, so many emails and I panel my own show, but I love it, I really do. I’m trying to bring a younger, more contemporary sound to talk radio - with the occasional skit, a few songs (from the 80’s 90’s and a few current hits). I use a lot of music beds and have my production bits done by the wonderful Daryl Missen. Overall it’s really good Bill has given me a chance to experiment, try doing things differently, and our audience is growing - helped along by social media posts, podcasts and video’s. I’ll be honest I’m living my dream right now.
you’re carving it up on the socials. If I had one piece of advice - and I love how you get a range of guests on, from all sides etc etc, but sometimes it feels like you get a Malcolm Roberts on and are too chummy, and then you get Adam Bandt on and are chummy again. I think what I’m saying is go harder more often. Otherwise, you’re killing it
Any word on a new website Marcus?
Noted. Cheers. Maybe it’s my inexperience … but I worry if I smash them they won’t come on again? I can be really harsh in editorials and even with crazy callers - but when it comes to pollies I get all respectful. IDK. You’re right though, sometimes they are chummy. Maybe I should still ask the hard questions, but be polite in the asking etc … still much to learn.
