This was only 10 or 15 or so years ago. One of the best radio ad campaigns in Oz. 2SM can easily rebadge something similar with even some of the same faces …

Around the same time Alan Jones joined 2GB (or not long after), there were commercials airing on Sydney television for a major “$1 Million Note” competition the station was running at the time.
No video unfortunately, but the ABC’s “Media Watch” program did briefly mention the competition (and replay the TVC) during their 2nd show back!

Not a bad roster! I would do it a bit differently for the New 2SM 1269 … how about this for weekdays:
12am-5am: Gary Stewart
5am-7am: Marcus Paul
7am-9am: Alan Jones
9am-12.00: John Laws
12.00-3pm: Chris Smith
3pm-6pm: Michael McLaren
6pm-8pm: Sport Show
8pm-12am: Luke Grant

Is 1269 a decent signal in Sydney? The higher band stations are awful in Melbourne, except 1377 which seems better these days, 1278 is dreadful.

1269 has the weakest signal of all the Sydney AMs. You can hear 2UE quite intelligibly in Canberra on a car radio but there’s not much from Bill’s behemoth. In Sydney I was able to hear both 1260 Shepparton and Tragic 1278 fairly clearly without much splash.

Personally I’m not much of a talkback/news radio listener but occasionally I do. The problem for me is the Australian ones to me lack polish. They sound clunky and almost amateurish. 2SM definitely does, but so do 2GB and 4BC. Their audience is shrinking because quite frankly they’re dying and not being replaced by younger listeners.
They need to have a listen to LBC in London which is a whole different animal. Sounds smooth and polished, a bit centre but still right leaning. Although I’m sure the far right Trumpers would call it woke - they’d be wrong though.

. John asked Alan if he wanted to do breakfast and there are bits of papers in front of him to sign. Alan does miss radio.

I didn’t listen to Alan it is more about getting more competition in Sydney’s talk market. I always remember 2GB getting Alan and Ray and 2UE never recovered. With 2SM today it is another dimension (20 odd years later), will it go back into the ratings, what will happen to 2GB. Will Ray Hadley be able to keep it at number 1? I hope George Moore / Paul show up on the weekend. I will listen then. Alan/John/Ray were 20 years younger so perhaps it will not have the same impact today.

Let’s get Mooney off this 2SM thread ! Oh ok since bacco brought him just now … This clip proves yet again why Mooney is such a dud / failure in Sydney. Unfunny , single track mind , lowest common denominator garbage. Doug Mulray was sending up Alan Jones 30+ years ago in the same 2MMM breakfast shift … except Mulray was funny , original , thoughtful and intelligent … everything that Mooney is not. Now back on topic. Fascinating chat this morning between John Laws and Alan Jones on JL’s show. Kite flying to test listener and media reaction. Alan Jones is contracted to Sky News 4 nights a week until the end of the year. Stranger things can happen but I can’t see him returning to radio any sooner unless he bails out of television. Returning to breakfast on 2SM seems the most logical however possibly John Laws is considering retirement or they may work together. I don’t see creating a shift, say 7 to 9 would work.

My thinking is that 2SM could run an early breakfast (Marcus) leading into Alan kicking off at 7am. I doubt AJ would start at 5.30 as before given his health dictates. But here’s the kicker … Alan could then join Lawsie during the 9-10am hour of JL’s show for a fascinating double. This would plant AJs audience into John’s mornings and really whack Hadley on GB.

I hope it happens Hadley. He has got way too arrogant. I provided feedback when he decided to play the same Robertson Brothers parody song 6 times in he’s 3 hour show. It was funny after the first time definitely not after the 6th. He replied with some rubbish that he has won more surveys then anyone else. That might be so but you aren’t going to win if you continue with the same behaviour.

Heard an ad on 2gb of Ray giving it to Alan. The ad says what Alan says is half well researched and other half bs. Looks like 2gb doesn’t mind and uses this as an ad.

That’s what Hadley said on his program this morning so it’s probably just the standard highlights package they play during the day.
I’m no fan of either but Hadley is correct in what he says about Jones.
