With all due respect, the logo is the least of their worries. With advertising revenue collapsing across all media platforms, an AM station that was losing $2 million a year in the good times must be in an absolutely dire financial position now.
Yep, I wouldn’t mind predicting that 2CH will be sold (obviously after the coronavirus pandemic is over) by the time of their 90th birthday.
Maybe Bill will buy it?
They’re already running it with just three presenters doing long shifts (and/or pre-records) on weekdays and less than the smell of an oily rag on weekends. They may not be able to afford to take news from Nine for much longer!
I am certain Oceania would love to get out while they can. As I said in an earlier post the station has cost them over $10 million in acquisition costs and running costs. If FM stations are struggling with revenue at the moment a low rating AM station listened to by the 60+ audience is in even worse trouble now.
So what’s it worth as a business? Bugger all really. Losing $2 million a year-just give it away and cut your losses.
WIN was interested in buying it, so maybe they might still be if it was going cheap? One advantage of WIN buying it is that it would allow them to put C91.3 on digital radio without having to setup a separate Campbelltown multiplex.
You could imagine Bruce will be circling for distressed assets and similar.
What was the reason the WIN wasn’t the successful buyer of 2CH? ACMA didn’t approve of their conditions of sale?
iirc, Oceania wasn’t the top bidder but won anyway. Just guessing that maybe they agreed to the NSW Council of Churches demands, but maybe WIN wanted an unencumbered business?
Thanks @littlegezzybear, I recall similar now you remind me.
Kevin Blyton is probably the only operator who could make a profit out of 2CH. And he’s way too smart to pay too much for it.
Well we can confirm that Tim Webster is only live from 6am-9am, Trevor Sinclair is also voice tracking Midday-3pm & Chris Kearns voice tracking 10pm-1am. Online Radio Box showing very interesting song titles such as “VT REC for 2CH–AM: 2020-04-02 by TimW on 2CH-ZET-STUD01”
Disagree that Kevin is the only operator who could make a profit out of it. Agree that he’s way too smart to pay too much for it. It’s an easy one to run on a shoe string with the right personnel in place.
And the right strategy targeting the right market.
Yep. The opportunity is still there …
Currently they depend on 2GB for News, Technical Support and Studios. I presume 2GB will move to North Sydney during the year. I wonder what will happen to 2CH then,
Classic Hits 2CH has appointed veteran broadcaster Kayley Harris to anchor and co present Sunday Night Open Line.
In a new direction for the show, Kayley will be joined by Karl Faase, who is well known to the Christian community with his work in Christian media both in Australia and around the globe.

Steering the show away from the Right and making it more middle stream, I think.
Kel Richards was the one who took it to the Right. Good broadcaster, but he certainly used to nail his evangelical colours to the mast. Revenge on much gentler voices from the past like Roger Bush and Jim McLaren (I think Fr Jim was on 2UW).
The conservative skew of 2CH’s Sunday Night Openline program probably goes back a bit further than Kel Richards though. His predecessor Ross Clifford has since gone onto become NSW president of Fred Nile’s Christian Democratic Party, if I’m not mistaken.
Until 2019:
