I bought a copy of AFL Record before tonight’s game at the MCG between Hawthorn and Collingwood. It is the round one edition and inside is a folded broadcast guide poster. It does list the Seven games during the Commonwealth Games to be on 7mate.
Yes. I looked on the AFL website last weekend and it said 7 for Vic/SA. It changed, move on.
I looked a week ago.
It said 7 for Vic/SA.
I looked yesterday.
It said 7mate for Vic/SA.
So it changed. Who cares? Move on.
Sunday Herald Sun reports Lord Sebastian Coe will join Bruce McAvaney for athletics commentary. What a great signing.
Most on the Gold Coast don’t want it either. Tom Tate, who wasn’t mayor when it was announced, said privately on the day of the announcement that it’d be a huge cost for little return.
Businesses that don’t rely on passing trade dread it as their customers will cancel work during the games because of escaping the coast to avoid congestion.
Those who do rely on passing trade are concerned as besides from the concentrated tourist locations, they don’t foresee any improvement either.
Local media don’t see any benefit of it either, sales are nervous about bookings and have been for two years now. ABC local coverage on 91.7 Gold Coast (Coast FM) will be limited. The true irony is that the Comm Games roadshow will pack up and the following night, 9 will again be the leading station on the Gold Coast.
How is it possible? Shouldn’t the local station be promoting the Games?
If I lived up on the Gold Coast, I’d probably also be getting out of town during the Commonwealth Games.
TV ratings wise, I’ll bet that any ratings benefit Seven gets (on the Gold Coast…and probably also other Nine-loving markets like Brisbane and Sydney) will most likely be a short-lived sugar hit rather than anything particularly long lasting.
Here in Brisbane, no one I’ve talked to is looking forward to it. I don’t know anyone who is going and quite a few people have said they’ll actively avoid the area because of the disruption. I have no idea who all these people are that the Queensland Government said are getting ready for the games.
The fact that my local train line (Beenleigh line) will have NO trains for the duration of the games is a fucking outrage.
Also: Ian Thorpe, Leisel Jones (Swimming)
Who will call The Gymnastics and the volleyball events?
The Horse racing will be on 7TWO on 7 & 14 April. I think that Jason Richardson will fill Bruce Mcavaney’s position for the horse races.
I live in Brissie, I’m going, my family is going and I can name at least 4 other people/families going. … and we’re all looking forward to it very much!!

Knowing how Seven loves to show repeats on their main channels would it be a good idea to put 7Flix into good use as well? Use Flix for highlights and repeats or actual events when the main channel (or TWO and MATE) are showing repeats.
Better yet would be to launch a simulcast of 7Mate HD along with 7HD during the commonwealth games on Channel 70 or 71, even though the chances of a pig flying would be higher than that.
Even getting HD feeds of Seven’s main channel up in Regional Queensland (which is still watching 7mate in MPEG2 HD on LCN-73) would be good.
Where is the schedule for day 9 (April 13)?
Thanks - added.
That’s pretty vague about what will be available on the free app. I thought it would be the same as the website, which I expected to have a stream for each event. Isn’t that what they had for the Winter Olympics? If there was curling on, they had a stream for it, etc. But this makes it look like all those streams only come with the premium version.
