I think Adriano and Rachel Khoo (the co-hosts) had to keep a straight face as this is a cooking competition after all. It reminds me of the first season of MasterChef. I am sure their mood would relax as the series continued.
The only time Zumbo shows any emotion (and I want include the robotic laugh at the poor guy who can’t set things) is during the final challenge. They should just wheel him out to explain his creation.
To go along with that, the advertising department should be pushing the Zumbo Challenge creations as the reason to watch the show, which having just seen the preview seems to be what they are doing with the croquembouche. To me it is like how the previews of House Rules were tweaked early in Season 1 to show the finished products and it worked.
So, I gave tonights ep a go (“Zumbo Test”)…
It’s weird. I don’t know whether to like or keep watching it.
I love desserts & challenges associated with them, but the execution/structure is strange?
I heard/saw awful feedback online regarding yesterday’s premiere, I kind of ignored that though.
Thoughts?

The use of slomo camera for the Zumbo test in tonight’s episode was excessive.
And make sure to ignore any advice given on this site as well (including this post)

He didn’t ‘rely’ on anything. He noted that other people had said it was shit - yet he was still willing to give it a go and form his own thoughts.
No need to be grumpy because Seven has wheeled out another turd which people are critical of.
Wasn’t grumpy at all. I actually had a big smile on my face which caused my eyes to shut and was sticking my tongue out. Check the emoji and stop bitching.
This show had potential but it lacks the intensity/excitement in the challenges. I compare the final round to a Masterchef pressure test and in comparison it just seems very slow paced and dull. The judging is barely non-existent and they just churn out a number and the person goes home. With a bit of refining this actually could have been OK but it’s not executed very well at all.
Can we change to title of this topic to Zzzzzzzzzumbo’s Just Desserts?
I watched this for the first time tonight ,it was ok ,not sure if I want to continue watching .I wonder if any of the contestants auditioned for Masterchef too?
The croquembouche test in tonight’s episode was gripping stuff. It was hard to explain how Kate managed to have two red hearts of profiteroles leaning on one side but they did not collapse as Kate brought her re-creation to the tasting table.

dude you really need to get out more!

What stupid point are you trying to make? Just because you don’t like a show based on your “2016’s Worst New Show” comment doesn’t mean others can’t. I think since Masterchef originally did the Croquembush many years ago a lot of people are pretty interested and captivated by it.
If that is what you call “gripping stuff” I’d bloody hate to see you when a real-life incident occurs.
I watched the first episode as it was in HD, but after that I couldn’t last more than 15 minutes watching it, I don’t know why but I found watching it is like the same as data entry.

I’m not quite seeing the correlation between a person’s taste in television programs and their ability to deal with a personal crisis?
Caught up. Not great, starting with the voice-over guy, who is completely unsuitable, and then Rachel and Zumbo, who aren’t comfortable in their roles. It’s a little odd that everyone calls him ‘Zumbo’, like it’s his first name. Gigi isn’t adding anything. It’s all very flat. The producers and Seven execs must have seen that during filming, but weren’t able to fix it. I guess it shows that even with a decent budget it’s not easy to make a good TV show.
