DMCA is a USA thing, it is whether the host is USA based or has to follow USA laws. Many non American entities use the DMCA as a weapon to control take downs even though they have no legal power to do so.
Screen Australia and YouTube Australia have opened applications for the tenth edition of Skip Ahead, a ground-breaking initiative for Australian YouTube creators to develop their storytelling skills, grow their creative ambitions and elevate their production value.
Skip Ahead projects Life of Kea and Rebooted
Since 2014, Skip Ahead has supported 41 teams with over $5.2 million, helping them develop their skills and build sustainable careers on YouTube and beyond. Past recipients include Lyanna Kea (4.6M subscribers), Never Too Small (2.9M subscribers), timtimfed’s Michael Shanks (204K subscribers), Rainbow Bop (48K subscribers), Tibees aka Toby Hendy (1.29M), and RackaRacka’s Danny and Michael Philippou (6.8M subscribers).
Applications are open to content creators who meet at least one of the following criteria:
a current YouTube channel with at least 25,000 subscribers
a maximum of two current YouTube channels with a combined subscriber base of 40,000
a YouTube video that has amassed a minimum of 1 million views with a subscriber base of at least 10,000.
Successful applicants will participate in a workshop taking place in Sydney in August 2025 and receive ongoing skills and development support, in addition to production funding up to $120,000 for their project. For teams based outside of Sydney, travel and accommodation support will be provided for up to three team members per project from within Australia.
YouTube will exclusively stream the NFL’s Friday night Week 1 game of the upcoming season from São Paulo, Brazil, on Sept. 5, 2025, to most users globally on YouTube and YouTube TV. (It won’t be available on YouTube in Canada, where the NFL has an existing streaming deal with Bell Canada, and will be blacked out in a few other countries.)
Universal Music Group (UMG) has claimed yet another high-profile YouTuber, one who is a rapper and reacts to/discusses music. His name is Knox Hill. Three videos he uploaded on his channel have been issued takedown notices by UMG, and he will receive 3 copyright strikes, effectively eliminating him from YouTube.
Those takedowns are to take effect this Friday USA time (probs Saturday AEST). He already received a copyright strike recently on another video he uploaded, so this will no doubt kick him off the platform, because he will now have 4 copyright strikes, which is well over the 3 strikes and you’re out rule.
No wonder why I now also have an Odysee presence (thanks @Didz for the suggestion).
This ban coming up in December will only lead to disaster, we would probably have cyberattacks caused by everyone having to use their ID (unless they are using a VPN). Not to mention it would send under 16s to way more underground social media sites that would have way more harmful material. The platforms may even choose to geoblock our country and leave altogether.
They should have said this is what happens when you give a helicopter parent and a Karen combined into one any power, and that she should be fired immediately.
