WIN News

Or something easier, couldn’t win make it seconds at six?

(One last bit on the slightly off topic part;) presumably Ten would justify calling their news bulletin Ten Eyewitness News First at Five because it was the first bulletin to have been scheduled for 5pm, but yeah, it’s kind of misleading now.

That is a fair made point

The name continues on from when the bulletin was called Ten News at Five.

Ten’s First at Five branding predates Seven and Nine’s afternoon news by a few years. Back then, 5pm would’ve been the first evening bulletin on air.

I don’t think the afternoon news was a thing until 2004.

Yes. Seven and Nine didn’t launch early news or afternoon news until around the mid-2000s.

Nine’s weekend First at Five bulletin was launched in 2011 when Ten tried (and failed) moving their weekend bulletin to 6pm. Seven’s weekend 5pm bulletin was launched in 2015.

It actually began in 1992 as Ten Eyewitness News First at Five. It was a massive shake-up as the other 2 major networks had their news at 6

And now now of nine, ten/win or seven can say they’re first. That comes down to abc, and technically they’re 24/7. Anyway, I think it should be just ten eyewitness news

While I agree with your sentiment, (as has been previously suggested in the appropriate thread) given how much Ten news has been cut even the “Eyewitness” bit may be misleading.

That’s what I’ve never understood, how is it eyewitness compared to any other news?

The afternoon bulletins started on Seven first I think and then Nine and were to give daily updates on the Iraq situation in the lead up to the war and toppling of Saddam. I think Seven’s bulletins were called “Iraq Update” or similar. Once the war had started and the bulletins had started to cover different things they were renamed to Seven Afternoon News or whatever they called it.

Quite simple really, Ten - first network to have their news service at 5pm = First at Five. Something that can be claimed for all their branding and in perpetuity. The original 1992 tag line was “First in News”.

Yeah thanks Iraq war 2.0.

In the old days this would have been read out from the studio (when there was one!). Does anyone know if they even have a green screen booth at the new shed in Fyshwick?

Have they even moved (finished moving) from Kingston? (Their old building still had a gigantic mappy on it a week ago.)

I love that “chilly weather” in NQld means you wear a tracksuit top with your shorts to '“rug up”!
