WIN News

Have to give credit where due though, WIN does focus on quality local issues

Queensland’s bulletins are a shell of their former selves since production was moved to Wollongong. It’s no wonder 7 cleans up in ratings.

Agreed, I watched the Rocky bulletin a few weeks ago for the first time in years and there was maybe 4 local stories and the rest were all generic non-region specific stories from NSW/ACT or VIC, not even QLD. Was also a few spelling mistakes and plenty of location/name mispronunciations from Melissa Russell which just added to the overall amateur feel of the bulletin.

The few promos I’ve seen the last few weeks since watching MC, are boring and haven’t changed in a decade. The only time the presenters are shown is on the end board but no mention of their experience, showing them out in the field/local communities etc. It all feels very “zero fucks given” which it is I guess.

Stella Lauri needs a rocket up her to get these stale bulletins/updates/promos back in the competition as they’re not even trying to compete with the 7Qld/Prime/SCA/ABC local bulletins at the moment.

Sounds painful :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

WIN are scrapping through the bottom of the barrel for news stories.

Saw an update this afternoon, one of the stories in the update that they are covering tonight was literally intro’ed in the update as:
“South Townsville State School plant seeds in their new vege garden”.

Firstly, how is that newsworthy, secondly, school holidays started one week ago… how old is that story

On the school’s Facebook page:

Seems like a reasonable story.

Sky News on WIN was plugged by Bruce during tonight’s Canberra bulletin as the place to go for ongoing coverage of the Eden-Monaro by-election. Doesn’t say much for the future of WIN’s own service.

So they should, WIN is not financially capable of producing any decent coverage.

The last state election they only had a couple of two minute updates that weren’t particularly informative.

I vaguely recall at least some WIN News accounts putting out automated tweets a while back to plug their own bulletins which started off with “Local news, there’s nothing better” or words to that effect.

While realistically it may not be financially viable in the current environment, I’d personally still argue that there would be nothing better than WIN doing their own coverage of the Eden-Monaro By-Election over the weekend rather than having to rely on Sky News. Why? Because we all know that if a by-election was taking place in one of our capital cities, Seven & Nine would likely produce/air their own special updates (in the relevant market, of course) rather than relying on someone else’s coverage!

Am watching Gadget Man on SBS Viceland and I heard the music instantly recognisable as coming from this WIN News promo:

Melbourne had has lots of coverage of local events over the decades. Things like Moomba spring to mind. Perhaps not NYE, but certainly other things.

Melbourne also had local TV shows like World of Sport in the old days.

Local content rules give regional TV providers flexibility on the type of content they provide, they are just not being very imaginative.

Is anyone able to record the pre-recorded closer for 10 News Brisbane before opting out to WIN News?

Looks like WIN are finally uploading Queensland newsbreaks online. Just Tasmania left. Not sure why they haven’t been able to achieve it since it all comes from the same place.

A far cry from the early 1990s. Back then WIN Television had 2 news studios, one in Rockhampton and another in Toowoomba. The Rockhampton studio would cover the area of North Queensland and Central Queensland, while the Toowoomba studio would cover the Darling Downs area and eventually the Sunshine Coast area.

and two news studios in Victoria, one in Ballarat and the other in Shepparton. The Shepparton studio does news for Shepparton, Albury and Gippsland, and the Ballarat studio covers Ballarat/Western Victoria and Bendigo.
