WIN News

Sorry to hear about that.

Going by Twitter, the Illawarra edition of WIN News still went to air tonight.

Looking at their Facebook & Twitter page, there is no local story from today being posted there, with the only two posts made today on its Facebook page being sourced from WIN News Illawarra.

Perhaps the Canberra bulletin has quietly being axed, as was rumoured a few weeks back? :frowning:

I hope I’m wrong, because with the local Nine News bulletin currently suspended, that would be very bad for local TV news coverage in Australia’s national capital, which has gone through several axings over the last 30 years.

The tv schedule shows WIN News back tomorrow night.

The yourtv guide and EPG both had WIN News Canberra in the schedule for today.

Public Holiday in the ACT today, so that’s probably why there wasn’t a bulletin

A pity they didn’t change the EPG (on my Fetch it still had WIN News) or the online guides.

Just checked my recordings and found the Illawarra bulletin went to air as normal tonight with Bruce Roberts back in the chair after a couple of weeks off. Lots of ANZAC Day coverage from across the region. Pretty poor of WIN not to bother with an ANZAC bulletin for the ACT considering Canberra is home to Australia’s national memorial to those who have served. Perhaps they’ll include that “fresh” news in tomorrow night’s bulletin.

Some daily online promos from WIN’s Sunshine Coast News. Seems they started late last week. Really good to see the effort. From today:

Gee, I wonder where they got that idea from.

This clip has been doing the rounds on social media. I’m a bit sceptical, but anyone able to confirm if this is real? It has since been deleted from their official page, which further adds to my suspicion…

(Caution, a bit NSFW)

I can confirm this was real as it’s still on their Twitter Page! :joy:

Is there a Win News bulletin for the Newcastle area?
Or is the only local TV news provider in that region NBN?

No. Just short updates to satisfy the local content quota, typically presented by Stephanie Atkins or Kristina Prentoska.

Yep, NBN is the only channel with a full local bulletin in Newcastle/Hunter & Central Coast markets.

I watched WIN News Townsville on Friday night for the first time in many years, as I had heard that they had interviewed someone I knew.

My, my, my, it has drastically declined in quality since I last watched it.

Less than half of the bulletin was genuine local content.
The first story was local, second story was a detailed national piece about the easing of coronavirus restrictions, focusing mostly on NSW/ACT. Footage from the story included GIO Stadium in Canberra.

Then there was a generic story about the BLM protests, including footage, again, of Canberra. Nothing local or QLD-based in the story at all.

The next story mentioned an event happening at a school (the school was named and it wasn’t local at all), as the story played I realised the school was in Cairns, so the story was completely irrelevant to the Townsville market.

Then there was a local story about tourism where the super had the word spelled as “tourisim”, not once, not twice, but three times.

An absolute mess of a bulletin. Not to mention the dodgy editing going from one story to the next. It was obvious that the presenter was just cut and pasted in between each story.
