But what does any of that have to do with WIN being able to keep 100% of the revenue booked in their own local news.
An interesting article from the Illawarra Mercury today about where WIN News will air after they lose the Nine affiliation: http://www.illawarramercury.com.au/story/3898054/wins-tough-choice-what-to-lose-for-local-news/?cs=298
Simple:
WIN:
4:30 Alive and Cooking
5:00 Bold and the Beautiful
5:30 Family Feud
6:00 WIN News
6:30 The Project
Eleven:
5:00 Ten News
6:00 Family Feud
6:30 Neighbours
7:00 WIN News
Do WIN News as a composite bulletin with local news windows, similar to NBN News, but in half an hour - so WIN can cut down on the number of actually local reports (and the amount of out of region content), and save money, without looking like they are reducing the amount of local news.
Have the full Ten news available on Eleven for those who want it - but otherwise bump it so that WIN News can be in prime time.
That article misses the most sensible scenario. Local News at 6 followed by the Feud and a condensed Project. Nothing has to disappear.
Any notion to dump the Feud on ONE/Eleven is lunacy. It’s premium content that fits well on the main channel and hopefully will work well on WIN.
I actually like Moe’s idea… it’s a bit unconventional, but let’s face it, TEN news is the least relevant to regional viewers of all the metro bulletins… plus the opportunity to drop a few reporters by doing a composite bulletin would be a big help to WIN’s bottom line.
By moving to Eleven it messes with Couch Time… I’m not that familiar with how it works, but it does have some level of continuity being segments and leading in/out of shows… the obvious best option would be to ditch it altogether, but that could prove difficult being embedded in the main feed with likely no hard timeouts… but maybe Ten would be able to assist with that…
Unfortunately though, it’s probably too much of a bold creative move for someone at WIN to have the idea and actually go ahead with it
Family Feud is already airing on One and Eleven, if people want to watch it they still can, just put local news on main WIN at 6 leading out from Ten News.
I think they should put WIN News at 6 and put Family Feud in place of one of the god awful cooking shows that air at 3.30pm or 4pm every weekday.
My prediction is WIN might do a NBN and launch a seperate statewide local, national and international news bulletin in place of the metro news. But that’s my guess and I could be very wrong. But SCA is doing that also so who knows.
win could do like with nine where they got win news at 7 instead of aCA from july1 win has win news @ 6 and metro stays as is family feud @ 6
WIN News at 6 on WIN with Family Fued at 6 on 11 and One seems the most obvious to me
MediaSpy (and viewers) have complained how ridiculous it is to have the show on 3 channels. Here is a chance to Fix that
WINs priority will be giving its local news the plum spot and best lead in and beat chance for success - and putting at a time when it is most accessible. That is 6. I would think too in many markets especially Wollongong and the south coast win news would rate higher than FF
Besides anyone who wants to watch FF can its on two channels at 6 and WIN can collect ad revenue in that
The most important thing is that WIN push Ten to allow it to keep 100% of ad revenue booked in WIN news and not have to pay 40% of that to ten. That will be key to WIN News success
Interesting article from former WIN News presenter Kerryn Johnston and her battle with anxiety, something which went on for around 3 years whilst at WIN. Not something I ever would have guessed, being such a composed and articulate presenter on air.
It’s something that can affect anyone at anytime. Trust me, I know exactly how she feels.
AFR reports Bruce Gordon needs to leave Australia and fly back to Bermuda any day now for tax residences purposes - as he’s been in Australia for 4 months.
We should expect an announcement on the future of WIN News and Win/Ten any day now
WIN must be really concerned with the dire ratings of their News service in Tassie of late, as I’ve noticed over the last few weeks that they have started putting large front page print promos in the local Mercury newspaper. After all these years I’ve never seen WIN promote any of their content.
I’ll see about getting a cap of it at some stage for any interested in seeing it.
I’d say that’s smart. On air promos on WINs own air can only do so much as WiN in Tasmania has low viewership. The promos simply don’t reach enough people to make a difference. Last ratings I saw for April in Tasmania showed SC with about a 30% share and WIN half that."
With low viewership promos can only do so much they n Ed to be reaching people who aren’t watching WIN.
That said I’m not sure of the circulation of the mercury. Old print media is dying. They would be better off buying advertising for WIN News online on on radio
WIN should try going all out as local to Hobart - treat it as a capital city news bulletin, and focus on a local angle to Hobart. A live shot of Hobart in the background rather than the generic studio, promos about being Hobart’s news, made in Hobart for Hobart.
It might cut out a chunk of viewers in the north, but they’re all watching SC anyway.
I wonder if this deal for NNSW goes through whether WIN will have the balls (see what I did there??!) to open a local news for NNSW and whether this has a domino effect and makes Prime7 scurry to get a local news up for the Newcastle region?
Interesting times…
While it would be great to see, Personally, I doubt WIN would be bothered launching a news bulletin for NNSW.
The way I see it, It’s more likely they’ll be axing local news services across the east coast under TEN affiliation, not adding them.
It will take more than a chunk of viewers out of the North, it will take about 100% of viewers from the North which is also about 50% of the state then. I know what you’re saying and can see it makes sense but would be a very risky thing to do!
Although as you say, they’re probably already watching Southern Cross anyway. It’s interesting because even after 20 years there’s still a feel that WIN is south focused and SC is north focused, even when the SC weather shot is always the Hobart webcam or half the bulletin comes from the Hobart studio regularly.
