That would be ideal, WIN’s best on air talent by far, so I hope he lands somewhere good.
The quote in the article about being overseas makes me think it’s instead something totally out of the media, a kind of right place at the right time opportunity/offer.
Watched WIN News in Bundaberg tonight.
Despite starting with a voiceover, “across the Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay”, it was hardly specific to the region.
Stories from the Darling Downs, Mackay and FNQ.
Sport was 2 State of Origin stories, one generic and one from Townsville; and another story from Central Qld.
Not one story from Bundaberg which is the major city in this area.
Same scenario again tonight.
First half dozen stories were generic statewide stories. None really “news of the day” just general interest. The reminder of stories included one from Sunshine Coast and one from Maryborough, but others from Callide, Toowoomba and Mackay, all not part of this region.
Sport was 2 State of Origin stories, one a recount of last night’s game (that’s not local), and one from Townsville. There was one sport story from the Sunshine Coast.
At least the weather is local.
This. They don’t even have the resources to do proper news like courts and crime stories. Journalists are encouraged to find feature stories which can travel across regions.
I saw a story about the journalist tandem skydiving out of a plane for some charity. This is the content you’ll find on WIN News.
They still have have to do (i think) 120 points of local content per week on average in each region (they have to do 5 regions out of 7 in regional QLD I think). This equates to 60 minutes of local news.
Seems to me that Wide Bay is one of the two they are not covering in that respect.
Other option for those markets is to run the Brisbane schedule, but seems like WIN are doing this just to have a consistent schedule and nothing else.
They have a Reporter in Hervey Bay which is in the Wide Bay. They would have to travel to Bundaberg if there was something earth shattering but they don’t have a reporter based there.
7 however I understand have reporters in both cities.
Ok, I wasn’t sure if you were putting Gold Coast in with either Sunshine Coast as having a WIN presence, noting that the old ITQ region is under remote licence and WIN not having a presence there.
