WIN News (2015-Feb 2025)

Good to see Amy Duggan presenting the Canberra bulletin, makes sense having someone from Canberra presenting the Canberra news.

Do we know if WIN officially announced her (or someone else) as the new presenter of the Canberra/Illawarra bulletins yet?

Sounds like it’s just a revolving door of presenters tbh!

Sponsored Update:

I was assuming that Bruce Roberts would present Canberra/Illawarra permanently. Towards the end of last year he was doing it regularly, especially on Thursday/Friday every week.

I like Bruce Roberts but Amy Duggan is better known in the Canberra community. But yeah I wonder if Bruce will make an appearance later in the week

Do we know if the Canberra bulletin is still live? I just assumed with the major newsroom closures (last year?) that all bulletins would be prerecorded

No it’s been a pre-recorded bulletin from Wollongong since they shut down the Canberra studio way back in 2013

Correct me if I’m wrong on this but I was under the impression that WIN News Canberra was initially produced live when production was moved to Wollongong, resulting in the previously live Illawarra edition becoming pre-recorded.

Yep, going by this article from 2013…

Yeah you’re right, I thought they pre-recorded the Canberra bulletin. I think they do pre-record it now but I can’t find a source for that. Feel free to correct me. Seems odd that the Wollongong studio would pre-record their own bulletin so that they can do the Canberra one live. It’s a shame they can’t set up a little studio at Fyshwick and do the news there

I don’t get win

They use local backdrops for opens but generic for the news

And then generic open for updates and local backdrop

And gosh. This still looks like 9 news

Would be so nice for them to work with 10 and have the package based on 10’s look and localized for each win area

None of these bulletins are produced live or even recorded “as live” anymore. The shitty way these WIN News bulletins are produced and pieced together is painfully evident when you sit through an entire bulletin. Editing mistakes and cueing errors are common, the presenters can’t give an authentic reaction to stories because they just read the intros and don’t see the report go to air, and the throws to the weather, done in another studio at a different time, are clearly fake and awkwardly scripted.

This clanger happened during Monday’s bulletin.

Just saw a WIN News update air in Townsville featuring Tanya Dendrinos (spelling?)

The update was a local Townsville one with local stories, but Tanya accidentally said “Toowoomba” on one of the stories mentioned

You’d think with a mistake like that they could edit it or record it again.

With the sheer volume of content WIN produce daily out of one facility and with the size of the team they have I very much doubt they check all that much before clearing it to air.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Someone who deserves to be rewarded with a regular presenting position at WIN News before one of the metro networks picks her up.

Unfortunately, accidentally saying “Toowoomba” instead of “Townsville” is probably a minor error compared to some of the major editing fails and outtakes which have made it to air in recent times!
