WIN Corporation

Forgot about that one. And didn’t Nine add Ellen as well after WIN aired it as well?

Yeah, I think they did.

WIN Certified areas? Is that a certificate that you can get to show Bruce and family approve of your joint?

The inspection process is rigorous. The premises must have no dots or balls, and maps of Australia must be visible at all times.

Will Mappy be making a brief return for an hour?

I’m guessing it will be watermark free.

WIN decided in July 1st 2016 to try not to feature mappy in the Watermarks. However, both WIN Network and WIN Corporation still has mappy in the logo.

WIN often uses the 2015 Nine watermark variant during breakaway programming, so it’s more than likely that the same will apply here.

and a few months later they introduced the bright blue mappy watermark.

More than likely it will be the Nine glossy watermark, as mentioned above.

Anyone have more information or could explain this ‘affiliation war’. I can’t remember it at all!

Simply…Nine requested more revenue (40%) in return for their supply agreement and WIN rejected (expecting to only pay 29%) then threatened to sever their affiliation agreement and dropped Nine’s key programming during the daytime.

This playlist shows the impact on-air. It wasn’t just schedule changes. They also ramped up their efforts in scrubbing the Nine brand, the most extreme being a full lower-thirds coverup during Today.

From memory, the Today coverup only lasted a couple of weeks before they settled on just covering the Nine logo.

Actually PBL Media wanted 60% initially. Obviously a tactic to force an increase in the proportion through negotiation despite poorer network performance lol.

Didn’t Bruce Gordon try a number of different tactics during this period—either to sell WIN to Nine or to acquire the remainder of the network from PBL/NEC as well? He fought to have NBN Newcastle folded into WIN Corp and lost, then later attempted to package WIN’s sale as a “sweetener” to stop Nine from jumping across to SCA, which also failed.

His strategy of aligning with Ten worked well—until CBS arrived and blew up those carefully laid plans.

Now, he’s essentially back where he started.

WIN also switched it’s main affiliation in South East SA and the Riverland from Nine to Seven programming.

Got nothing to do with that, as I believe during Today it was Today logos in the ticker.

My understanding is that WIN wanted to hurt Nine with their revenue source in the lower third during the weather segment. From what I can recall Today’s weather was sponsored by “Inner Health Plus” and “LJ Hooker” at the time and WIN were not getting any cut of that revenue at all. Bruce really threw all the toys out of the cot to try and get leverage into a better deal.

You can see from @WAtvVideos post above that the ticker itself is not covered. Just the sponsor.

Here’s a 2014 promo from when WIN were desperately trying to hide Nine News branding:
