Discuss the likely Ten revival here

Sooner than we thought, but apparently not as the Hot Seat format.

Haha. Not a bad prediction from my end.

That ā€œhiatusā€ didn’t last long then.

But it woukd be good to see the original format return, with all the traditional lifelines including ā€œAsk the Audienceā€.

On the US version in the late noughties-early 10s, they had the double dip lifeline which allowed a contestant to have two attempts at answering the question (presumably to replace 50:50, eliminating any chance of a guaranteed win on any question). Wonder if the 10 iteration could include it.

Definitely couldn’t see Hot Seat returning to our screens so soon, don’t think the appetite would be there to support it and there’s not really anywhere it would fit.

But was just thinking last night it would be good to see another shiny floor Aussie show on 10 amid all of the Celebrity, Survivor, TARA etc etc.

Millionaire is not quite what I was thinking, but it’ll doooo.

The original version feels quite ponderous, having seen it recently with the ITV reboot.

Just had to refresh my memory on the meaning of ponderous lol. Is that the choice of host with Jeremy, or the format itself?

I can see how it might be a bit slow if we’re more familiar with the Hot Seat format nowadays- even if they did stretch it out to an hour long duration.

A little bit of both - just feels like a slog rather than the tension building sort of show it used to feel like. Maybe my attention span is getting shorter too…

Good news, but 10, just please don’t get Grant Denyer to host it.

If they can get Eddie to host it in its original format, I’d be happy to watch it.
How many years has it been since the original format aired here?

According to the article, they revived some primetime specials events in 2021.

Prior to that, Wiki says it regularly aired from 1999 - 2006, they then revived it in 2007 after McGuire resigned as CEO of Nine but aired as 30 min editions at 7pm in place of Temptation that was rested. They then aired some kids specials in 2010.

Excluding specials, 2007 was the last year that a regular episode was produced. However there were some tweaks, including a bonus $5 MILLION question and a 60-second timer which would begin if Eddie McGuire thought the contestant was taking too long to answer a question (this was because the 2007 episodes were produced live). If this shot clock expired, the contestant would be forced to walk away with whatever money they had won to that point.

In the late-noughties, the US version introduced fixed time limits for each question: 15 seconds for the first five, 30 seconds for questions 6-10, 45 seconds for questions 11-14, and then 45 seconds plus banked time for the million dollar question (so for example, if the contestant accumulated four minutes and 15 seconds of banked time from the first 14 questions, then they would have five minutes for their final question). If time ran out on any question, they would be forced to walk away with their current winnings (but if they used the double dip lifeline, and failed to give a second answer in time, it would be treated as if they answered the question incorrectly).

Seven is joining in the fun as well.

Now that is interesting lol.

Would’ve though if 10 have picked up the local rights, they could’ve tied up any international versions as well

Interesting developments there. Seven getting in early with the airing of the UK version. Seeing how successful The 1% Club UK is here.

Will airing this help our local version on 10 (whenever it happens)?

Potentially, but I don’t think Seven’s strategic pickup of this (and the timing of it being tipped to David) is in any way designed to help 10’s version - they just want to get the upper hand here.

100%. It has ā€œpetty Seven actionā€ all over it

Sad state of affair for the network mind, they are clearly so broke they have to fill their weeknights with overseas content

I don’t think it’ll rate - Nine tried a classic millionaire format special as recently as 2021 and it sank without a trace. Plus this version will have UK questions at times which won’t help

1% UK works because the host is fantastic and the format is fresh, easier to get into, and viewers don’t have to be good at quiz

If Ten can nail the host choice for their version they might be in with a chance

From the article ā€˜casting is complete’. Maybe either Eddie or Grant? :person_shrugging:

Was referring to the contestants, I believe.

Heard a certain former Nine presenter was approached as a possible host, but declined.
