This is exactly what we’ve been saying. We watch the US version occasionally on Foxtel and this just lacks in every aspect in comparison.
Most of the wheel is filled with the same low dollar values (mostly $100-300) which makes it so boring. Plus it just feels really slow being dragged out for an hour before the final round. They should do 2x30 min eps back to back and speed it up more.
I’m also confused by these fake sounding crowd noises when there is an actual crowd there. The “ooohhhh” when they spin the wheel and its slowing down is annoying, particularly when its at non-dramatic moments (Like when its literally between landing on $100 or $150)
This is actually better than I was thinking it would be.
Not a fan of Graham Nortons hosting style, but if they could get someone with a bit more energy to host it, I think it could be a winner. As far as an English host goes, I think Mark Nicholas (former Cricket commentator for Nine) would have done a better job.
Its actually good for Channel 10 - possibly as Saturday and Sunday afternoon show if they keep Graham as host, but someone with a bit of energy like Grant Denyer or even Glenn Robbins might work
Who else has 10 got in their stable? Maybe bring Osher back in?
This show sounds like it has so much potential, but 10 skimped on this more than their news department (hard to believe I know)
I don’t like the fast guess that occurs before each wheel round. If a contestant wins all three fast guesses that are worth $1000, he or she could build up an unbeatable lead even if another contestant wins the final round.
I’m two segments into watching it back and it’s not looking great.
Biggest problem seems to be Graham not knowing what’s going on - even just asking “what do you want to do” instead of telling them spin/solve/buy a vowel - as well as taking about 3 seconds to see who is buzzed in each time.
Has it really been so long since Wheel has been on TV that none of the contestants are doing the C for Cookie stuff? Also “haich” should have you thrown off the show. Maybe that does explain the stupid vowel purchases, and not risking a spin when you know the puzzle - having the first two puzzles needing to be topped up to $500 just feels wrong.
Given this is an adaptation of the UK format, it shouldn’t have these issues - maybe aside from contestant quality - but they should have cast better for the first few episodes - you’re not going to make the audience feel smart by guessing before these people.
Is it really needed though? If there are issues around which letter they want, it can be clarified, but it isn’t needed for every single letter.
I would note that in observing contestents back in the 1990’s, Frederick Ludowyk found that 60% of contestants pronounced it haitch. Both haitch and aitch are completey acceptable forms of pronunciation for that letter.
I was surprised though with some of the more obvious puzzles taking longer to solve, when the answer was right there!
I thought Graham was fine, a little toned down in behaviour compared to his show, but still with his distinctive personality.
I’d give it some time to evolve, the current iteration of Deal or No Deal was heavily criticised initially, due to the debut contestants reacting spontaneously to everything like they drank a bunch of cordial, but it’s a lot more enjoyable now in its current form, and Grant Denyer as the host worked out well, desperate the overexposure concerns.
are these the raw figures for 6:30-7pm on The Project or the average across the entire duration of the show. I am asking as I assume that the 7pm til 7:30pm half of the show would have a larger audience.
