Wheel of Fortune Australia

Good result for 10! Although very different to the original WOF, I quite enjoyed it!

Not a bad result, will be interesting to see if it can sustain the audience next week.

No doubt they’ve been told not to do this. Buried along with the co-host/hostess and everything that made the original Seven version good.

Will be interesting to see if that holds, though I assume ratings will dip naturally at this time of year anyway.

Sounds like the same issues flagged as with the UK version, which isn’t surprising considering they’re the same. Format wise it was a major flaw with how you could win more money from the quickfire buzzles than in the main game - they should just use one at the start of each round to determine who spins first.

Did the Aussie version originally used to have clearer categories like Books, Films, Phrases etc. rather than just “clues” often just to vagues “things people say”? I’ve always found the US version awful compared to the old UK version - especially their obsession with buying vowels, even when you’ve about 3 letters left and it’s blatantly obvious what it is. One of the main criticisms of the UK revival was it leaned far more into the US version than into the fondly remembered UK series, which had a far superior theme tune too.

But in a countersuit CBS lawyers claim, “Sony is attempting to obtain in court what it could not get at the bargaining table: the rights to the Series for free, by finding any excuse it can muster.”

CBS alleges that Sony has interfered in talks over distribution of UK and Australia versions of the shows, preventing CBS from exercising its contractual rights. CBS also claims that Sony has barred it from offering celebrity versions of the game shows in overseas markets, or signing overseas deals that go beyond 2028, both of which CBS says are in violation of the contract. CBS also accuses Sony of withholding license fees for interactive versions of the shows.

I liked the show. I like Graham Norton but don’t feel he’s suited to this show.

I now wonder if the delay to air Wheel of Fortune Australia was planned or whether this legal matter was the reason for the delay

Tonight is episode 6 and season final.

During the second round, a minor prize was added to a money amount, which turned out to be two annual passes to all Merlin Entertainment attractions around Australia, including Madame Tussauds in Sydney and the Melbourne Aquarium.

In the third round, the minor prize attached to a money amount was a $2,000 Aldi voucher.

As the season went on, the show became somewhat better. Wasn’t perfect, but last night’s final was better than the first episode. Will it return? Probably not under the Graham Norton (U.K.) version. Luckily, it was only 6 episodes long.

If the show is to return, I think the prizemoney for the pre-wheel puzzles needs to be reduced, as it overshadows the main wheel game. Most of the time, the contestants earned more money from these puzzles rather by turning the wheel.

Or perhaps the actual wheel amounts are increased. They are so low. They need to look to the values on the US.

Also they need to count the prize values to determine who goes through to the final round.

It has so much more potential in the one hour format to make it super sized version.

The UK version hasn’t adjusted this for it’s second run. Indeed they’ve changed nothing despite significant criticism.

I am wondering that IF Wheel Of Fortune Australia returns whether it will be in the same format and/or with the same host.

I would love to see this return, and i think it could be slated with Deal Or No Deal to create a weekday game show hour. However, if it returns, I think it will more likely be a one hour weekly show again as 10 seem reluctant to change The Project in respects of duration and timeslot and there is a strong following for Bold And The Beautiful at 4:30pm, I cant see them trying to move this show again.

The most irritating part of the show for me was when they spin the wheel, they have those fake “ooohhhhhh” crowd noises play as the wheel slows down. When it’s often the difference of $100 or $150 it made me cringe. If they want to do that, only do it if it’s close to a bankrupt or a big dollar amount.

Also a lot of the contestants on this version were absolutely hopeless. I’m guessing that they had a small pool of applicants (given that it had to be Aussie’s living in the UK) but I just couldn’t believe how bad some people were. On a couple of the episodes that I saw, one person just dominated because they had such low competition.

I also prefer this show as 30 minutes with a bit more of a faster pace. The US version feels a lot quicker.

I will be surprised if this comes back. They sat on these episodes for a long time before airing them. It might be good to have some more banked just to use as filler at various times throughout the year rather than the Deal or No Deal type specials they’ve been doing.

I think that they could do one of two things to try and make it work

Ten could make these as half hour episodes and air them Friday and/or Saturday night at 7:30pm on Ten, given the other suggestion that I have is unlikely to be taken on considered.

The second option is for there to be two versions of The Project airing. Version one could be a faster paced early evening show at 7pm (with Wheel airing at 6:30pm) and version 2 be a longer version up to 1 hour in duration airing either at 9:30pm (instead of first run US procedurals, which could air Friday and Saturday with encores at 11pm throughout the week) or at 11pm after the late news (if it returns)

This is all speculation under 10 actually wants it returning and makes a second season.
Knowing 10 they dump it or do the exact same cheap setup next year.

I wonder how they advertised for contestants, I know a few Aussies living in London and none of them heard about this

probably just set up a facebook page.

Someone that I used to be friends with a long time ago was actually on the show. He lives in the UK now and I know he was convinced by a friend living in Aus to apply. I believe there was a standard casting call online with a form to complete.

Is that why you said this?
