Wheel of Fortune Australia

If I may quote Kath Day-Knight, “Wheel hasn’t been the same since Adriana Obscenities left” :grinning:

No. I don’t know how big or small the pool of applicants were but I’m guessing it was probably small. The person on it that I knew many years ago actually won an episode. I only know of the other friend in Aus being the reason for applying because they both posted about it on Facebook.

Re-airing a repeat of an episode from the purely hypothetical second season of an allegedly ‘Australian’ game show featuring expat contestants—right after a late news bulletin that’s just a rebroadcast itself? Brilliant strategy! Absolutely flawless. Why stop there? Let’s throw in some fresh Gladiators Australia, It’s a Knockout, or—wait for it—new Pointless Australia!

Heck, why not go all-in with a late-night revival of The Circle or Studio 10 while you’re at it? lol

I was not talking about re-screening an episode of a game show at 11pm, I was talking about an extended edition of The Project - I think The Project in the early evening should be shortened and faster paced - whereas if Ten wants to maintain a longer version then additional content could be added.

Please re-read

But no one will want to rewatch something they’ve already seen in an earlier slot, even if the content is unedited.

If you want to do the whole uncut thing, why not revive Blankety Blanks (with an Alec Baldwin-style format), or better yet, acquire and run the upcoming CBS Hollywood Squares reboot, or just screen @fter midnigh?

Why they don’t screen after midnight from CBS baffles me, as it seems to do well, and would be a good addition after the Late News

What’s the sudden obsession with screening every existing American game show on Australian TV? :face_vomiting:

What are you on about? I havent suggested airing any late night game show. I am suggesting screening The Project as an extended edition as opposed to re-screening the exact same episode of The Project. My statement about changing the original screening of The Project to half an hour is about trying to pick up the pace for viewers in the section of the show that probably rates higher and screening any game show of interest at 6:30pm on the back of Deal Or No Deal. I dont think a midnight-ish encore of a local version of Wheel Of Fortune (or any other Australian game show) would work although international editions could

Cause 10 isn’t making any daytime programmes anymore and they’re trying to fill their schedule.

There are other options apart from American game shows. They risk flooding the airwaves and through fatigue then ruining Aussie game shows too.

I think if Ten wants to air American, Canadian, New Zealand or any other English speaking games shows then Ten could air those that dont require a 5 day a week screening on Saturday and/or Sunday afternoon for a couple of hours or screen then on secondaries throughout the week.

I think Ten needs to look at more than just game shows to fill the days. I remember at the start of the 1990s we had soap opera blocs - Another World, Santa Barbera, Bold and The Beautiful and General Hospital (with Donahue giving us a brief pause from 1:30pm to 2:30pm.

In the mid nineties Ten had Ricki Lake, Sally Jesse Raphael, Donahue and Oprah Winfrey, then to a lesser extent cooking shows and chat shows in the 2000s, now its game shows

That’s my point.

I think an even mixture of cooking shows, soaps, game shows, daytime news and Entertainment Tonight would be a great weekday schedule.

The Young and the Restless is the most popular day time soap and they’re wasting it on 10Play where their audience can’t watch it due to seniors mostly not being able to work out streaming.

The problem would be that Nine are still screening earlier episodes and there must be a cut off date for Nine to finish screening the older episodes, much like was the case when Seven kept sitting on the first season of Friends in the 1990s. Seven had to expediate the screenings, from memory I think the last few weeks were double episodes.

I would say March-April would possibly be the latest Nine could continue to screen episodes, but I could be wrong

I can check on dates but I believe Young and Restless is almost up. I thought was 31 December but was still in schedule for start of Jan.

I believe Days still has another year on Nine.

I can double check if there is interest

I thought it was no later than 31 December 2024, but like you said it remained in the schedule this week and given Ten haven’t started it yet, I gather it might be until at least end of month.

Would be good if you can get an approximate date as to when the agreement with Nine might end

Whilst it’s an easy schedule filler they’re not utilising I think that’s a pretty outdated view of “seniors”. The 70/80 year olds of a couple of decades ago may have struggled but I don’t know anyone 70 or older in my family who isn’t able to use streaming services - and most of them probably use them more than I do. My 90 year old neighbour loves YouTube!

I’m living through it now. My grandparents both late 80’s are absolutely struggling with the concept. They keep retreating back to the downstairs television which is just FTA only.

I am sure that I speak for most here that we are sorry that your grandparents (and potentially other older people may struggle with streaming, but I dont think you are getting it as far as rights go. Yes 10 can stream these new episodes on 10Play but at present CANNOT screen Y&R and DOOL until the respective rights expire.

In some ways the above is similar to how Nine couldnt screen the 2018/19 Summer of Tennis until Nine secured the rights to access one year early, when Seven had secured the 2018/19 Summer of Cricket,

Its all about the respective contracts preventing access at this point. I am sure it wont be too much longer before it is able to come to a FTA channel near you
