Those two things are not different. Unless there’s black bars around the picture, they are upscaling it to HD to show it on 7HD.

I think there was no upscaling for House Rules tonight as it involved live crosses so the pictures were a bit blurry on 7HD.

Again, you’re misunderstanding what upscaling is - it is simply resizing the video to go from the SD resolution to the HD one. If they didn’t upscale, it would look like this on the HD channel

The difference with a live cross is that the source footage that is being upscaled is already heavily compressed, so the main benefit of television networks upscaling is reduced.

On a native HD television, upscaling has to happen to SD content regardless - so if you’re watching an SD channel, the TV has to upscale that to your television’s native resolution, if you’re watching SD content on a HD channel, the network has done that for you, from their higher quality source. As such, even if something is produced in SD, when watching the HD channel, it will generally look better than the SD channel.

I believe the correct term regarding watermarks is the “least worst”, not “best”

Here’s one from earlier, Ten HD sports watermark minus the “Live And Free” text:

Oddly, the Ten logo appears to be upconverted SD while the “HD” text addition is in native HD.
