Warner Bros. Discovery

Take with a grain of salt, as only video game media is reporting this as it could mean PlayStation takes of WB Games.

An under-the-radar news flash here, but linear channels are being cut left, right and center by WBD.

In the U.S., 4 multiplex movie channels will go dark on August 15: HBO Family, ThrillerMax, MovieMax and OuterMax.

In Latin America, channel feeds have been merged as follows (those that were closed are italicized):

Cartoon Network:
Old: Mexico, Argentina, Panregional 1, Panregional 2
=> Merged to become an unified “Panregional” feed

Cartoonito:
Old: Mexico, Panregional, Argentina
=> Joined Panregional

Disney Channel:
Old: Mexico, Central, South
=> Merged to become an unified “North” feed

Star Channel:
Old: Argentina, Mexico, Panregional, Chile, Central
=> Joined Panregional

And in Brazil, 6 channels closed on February 28: Disney Channel, Star Channel, FX, Nat Geo, Cinecanal, Baby TV.

New bumpers and opener for Adult Swim’s Toonami:

Just in: the WBD post-demerger names and executives have been announced.

  • The Streaming and Studios side to be named The Warner Bros. Company, with Zaslav joined by Pam Abdy, Michael De Luca (remain as Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairs and CEOs), Casey Blooys (remains chair and CEO of HBO and HBO Max), Channing Dungey (remains chief of Warner Bros. TV) and JB Perrette (remains CTO) as some of its main executives.
  • The Global Networks side to be named Discovery Global, with Wiedenfels joined by continuing executives like Luis Silberwasser, who remains in front of TNT Sports Global, and Mark Thompson, who remains the chair and CEO of CNN. Argentinian executive Fernando Medin, who currently leads WBD’s Latin American networks, will be the new President of International networks, with Gerhard Zeiler being reallocated to lead the US, UK and Germany networks, as well as Chief Content Officer for the networks and leading Discovery+.

So, it all just (mostly) goes back to the way it was before all this WBD nonsense. Great work, Zaslav.

In an interview with Financial Times, John Malone revealed that held talks with Rupert Murdoch in July last year over merging Warner Bros Discovery with Fox, but the prospect of CNN and Fox News being under one roof undid any potential deal.

Lovely. They can turn CNN into Fox News 2.0 :innocent:

Impact on the stocks was immediate and sent a message.

WBD:

PSKY:

Are they aiming for the currently combined WBD or one of the split off companies?

Either way, it’s bad news for all and sundry.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

Paramount-Skydance are reportedly bidding for the entirety of WBD as it currently stands.

Yeah, this should be denied.

A combined Paramount-WBD-Skydance would make Disney look smaller than it currently is.

NYT article about Larry Ellison’s ambition to own WBD. Sounds like it’s almost certainly going to happen. RIP CNN if so.

Course it will. Ellison sucks up to Trumpy and his ilk, he’ll get the VIP (Very Important Prick) treatment.

Surely the merged company won’t want to give up CNN’s vast international network?

Not the first time a billionaire has bought a company and destroyed it. Remember Twitter?
