TV Week

Jamie Durie on the cover this week, ahead of his new show Growing Home premiering on Seven this Friday.

Another cover without someone from H&A on it? What will the fans do?

In the magazine this week there’s no story preview on Neighbours what’s going on it’s still on TV this week?

10 have probably stuffed up their scheduled stories by firstly planning on dropping an episode every week but then reinstating them.

Such a weird decision for 10 to have made. Especially since planned episodes and screening dates had already been scheduled months ago.

An upcoming episode with a Halloween episode screening on 31 October would have been delayed by a week if the changes had gone ahead. That would have been crazy.

The way TV Week present some shows in the guide annoys me (and many others in this forum). For example:

I don’t get why Nine decided to have a whole synopsis of the midday movie, but then have “no room” for Today and Today Extra. They’ve done this for a number of occasions. Even for Seven’s midday movie, but omit Sunrise and The Morning Show.

And why can’t they shorten some titles - like “Everyday Gourmet with Justine Schofield” to just “Everyday Gourmet”. It may be able to add more shows on 10 and SBS Food. Same with “Border Security: Australia’s Front Line” to just “Border Security: Australia”.

I understand it’s hard to shorten ABCKids, since they do have a lot of 5-10 minute programs. But surely they can make that channel’s font smaller to fit more shows in? Instead of having “late programs” start as easly as 8.55pm?

Looking at the screenshots above, they could easily shorten the bulletins name (i.e. instead of 10 News First: Lunchtime, cut it to just 10 News First).

Same with BtN Newsbreak - just have it as BtN.

This was just a random sample taken from 2008, why don’t they do now what they used to do with ABC and just run a smaller print for morning/early afternoon/overnight shows and focus on late afternoon/prime time with the larger print.

Exactly, but I suspect they want the easiest effort in copy pasting the data from the source with limited resources, otherwise it is a no-brainer.

Exactly. They can certainly do that these days with their morning shows (and late shows) for all networks. I understand that the columns are thinner now compared to then. But can easily get a few more hours of programs listed for ABC Kids.

I’d say that viewers know what is on in the 6am to midday timeslot and don’t need TV Week for that but the Friday midday movie is something they would look up and potentially decide whether to watch or not based on the synopsis.

Oh, i see. That makes sense.

I’m not saying that there should be no description of the midday movie at all. But should be slightly less in the guide. And have a more detailed synopsis in the two-page “movie guide”.

TV week should bring back the soap diary?

Hello!

Wondering if anyone here can give any advice where to buy old tv week issues? I’ve tried ebay but what’s available for sale is pretty limited. I live in NZ but not against knowing about local stores I could call, or even planning a trip to Aus to pick up a few for my collection.

Specifically looking for mid 90s - early 2000s, if that helps somehow.

It’s difficult. I don’t think there are any places that stock old copies of magazines any more. There used to be a few inner city suburbs with shops selling used records, books and magazines but these have pretty much gone out of business in the last decade or so.

I know TV Week keep a few copies of old magazines for a few weeks/months but I think they then pulp them. You could try contacting them and asking whether they know of anyone that deals in vintage mags but I don’t like your chances.

That’s disappointing to hear, but I guess not all that surprising. No choice but to just keep an eye on ebay then on the off chance! Thanks for the reply!!

Should have put Sophie Monk in the main photo.
