Do you recall Raw FM or before your time?

Was there one before the current dance music narrowcaster?

My “Youth Radio Group” series concept is probably more inspired by a now defunct youth co-op which existed in Canberra a few years back (@AustralianAerial will probably know exactly which one I’m talking about ) where a couple of the presenters actually got their media starts before going onto bigger & better things. However, The Youth Radio Group wouldn’t be entirely based on that and realistically, could be set in any major market of Australia with multiple community stations.

Given the amount of in-fighting and dramas which sometimes plague community radio groups, The Youth Radio Group probably wouldn’t be immune from off-air tension: A bickering pair of City This Week co-hosts which contrasts greatly with their friendly and down to earth on-air personalities, one of the Play It Now! presenters pitching a major music repositioning the others are unsure about, questions about the subject matter of a Speak Up! interview and whether it should go to air…that sort of thing.

Having said all that, it’s not entirely doom & gloom at the YRG. Occasionally, some mainstream media personalities would give the team shout-outs (perhaps even recording program IDs) and there would also be the enjoyable social media commentary of a City This Week listener which eventually resulted in them becoming a regular program guest.

The series would probably start out with The Youth Radio Group forming and end with it disbanding, when we’d find out that three YRG presenters eventually got bigger & better positions in the media (perhaps one to commercial radio, the second a news reporter on regional TV and the third perhaps helping form a new entertainment news-based website?) with the others moving onto non-media things.

Of course in the very unlikely chance this idea got off the ground, I’d develop the stories/characters further.

It was an ABC series set in Melbourne.

Ahh now I get you!

I was very young between November 1997 & February 1998, so I have no memories of the Raw FM television show which aired on the ABC.

Was a pretty good production, I would’ve been the perfect target demographic at the time. I did have the series on VHS, sadly threw them out years ago when the VCR packed it in. If you ever see it around, perhaps a local library or something check it out.

Here is an idea for an new Australian show, based on a UK series of the same name

It is called House Swap - House-swapping is the latest trend to hit the property world. House Swap sees members of the public given the chance to relocate to their dream property or location by swapping their property with somebody else.

An alternative idea could be The Housesitter - a fly on the wall series where someone “housesits” for someone and the public get to see what goes on.

Friend or Frenemy - A fly-on-the-wall social experiment where 2 friends (possibly of the same gender) trade living arrangements for a period of time (say 3 months). In the final episode it is an opportunity to “come clean” on any incidents that arose. Maybe not the most riveting of program ideas - but has possibilities

I do have another idea for a program that could either be a drama or a comedy. This program would be loosely based on programs such as Family Affair from the 1960s (yes I hear you shouting out relic), where an Uncle (or Aunt) is landed with the role of caregiver to 3 orphaned children. The drama/comedy would be moulded around getting used to taking care of the children whilst juggling other commitments.

Yes this idea has been done in various forms before other than the program mentioned (eg the movie Raising Helen), but I think it could be a program that could work.

Another possible programming idea assuming no one has tried it before is a fly-on-the-wall series called A Day In The Life Of A Teenager - a reality series that follows a student around for the whole day. I would consider 1 episode a week to be enough running over say 6 weeks. First series could focus on a female subject. If successful series 2 could focus on a male. Produce 2 series a year.

Obviously editing out more intimate moments.

Instead of being it based on something that’s already been done maybe try something new? I think when networks try and create new shows they just end up copying each other .

It is kinda hard now because anyone can literally do their own 5 minute tv show on you tube and stuff .

I don’t even think there is a large enough audience for these shows that you are suggesting.

I had Two random thoughts and memories today… candid camera and funniest home videos!!! Do you think there could be life in either of those!!! Funniest home videos could have a whole new lease on life with the amount of video content we all have on our phones these days.

I know they are old school but both were big hits in their day

Seven has done that with Cats / Dogs / Donkeys / Mules / Koch Make You Laugh Out Loud.

Plus Nine are still doing the genre somewhat with 20 to One.

That stuff we all upload to social media and You Tube to share with the world?

Why would anyone in this day and age wait for a TV show to present funny videos when you can watch them on You Tube at your convenience?

No. When you have random thoughts like that, you can keep them to yourself. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Sad but true. Same goes for music videos.

Mystery Diners Australia.

Because why the fuck not?

Does my idea “Sunset College” have legs?

Sounds likd the title of a porno. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

What about an Australian produced TV Bloopers. I am sure there would be some gems from the filming of shows like Neighbours

I actually thought that about Gogglebox and Big Brother (back in the day), but they have worked in their time. i think any program idea with the right people involved could be a hit.

I think that one of the networks need to invest in a variety show of sorts (like Hey Hey and The Midday Show), have variety of content - interviews, live musicians, sketch comedy, movie reviews, perhaps even music videos (even if it was 1 a day to take the show out)

Specifically for 10: Drag News - news hosted by drag queens at 6pm.
