TV/Media Vehicles

Not a media vehicle but I love the WIN TV livery on the old double decker passenger bus.

“Somewhere” being underneath the tower at TCN!

That first shot is also the side street at Willoughby, I recognise the houses along Artarmon Rd (used to drive along there daily back in the day).

I see your WIN bus and give you an NBN bus.

Parking infringement notice, and not paying within 28 days perhaps?

Sounds like something Packer would do. :stuck_out_tongue:

And in that second shot the guy on the right edge of the frame is holding what appears to be the rear bumper…definitely not a healthy OB truck.

Front end looks like a Bedford, J series, and the other more modern photo also wears a Bedford badge. Could be any time from the mid 1960’s to 1980’s.

Fun fact, I used to go to school on a Bedford J series bus!

An ABC RAV4 in Canberra yesterday:

Looks like it has NSW plates on it, which is interesting… You’d think it would have ACT plates, and there wouldn’t be a need for a NSW ABC car to be in Canberra?

Might have been cheaper to lease ACT vehicles as part of a bigger deal in Sydney/NSW?

Or it could be visiting as part of a production unit or similar. It’s got a big bullbar so probably a regional vehicle.

I think the general rule is that cars should be registered in the state or territory according to where they are normally garaged. At least in fairness in that you should pay their taxes since you are using their roads. It’s something I would expect the ABC to do anyway.

ABC lease all their general vehicles - typically Toyotas. The vans and purpose-made vehicles are an exception.

The car would’ve come from NSW and parked in ACT. If it’s a brand new vehicle (that’s a new model RAV4) you don’t have any inspections for 5-10 years, if not none at all depending on the state.

It’s hard to regulate that. Other companies like Red Rooster have many of their vehicles registered in QLD because there is no inspections after it’s first registration.

Generally vehicles are purchased at the state level, with oversight from the top.

And most, if not all, will be leased vehicles, deployed from local dealerships to avoid additional shipping costs around the country.

Just popped down to Artarmon today to get MY final look of TCN Channel 9, with these 2 vehicles across the road.

Fantastic number plate but it’s 1 number off. :joy:

8 is the main VHF frequency that TCN broadcasts its digital signal on these days though, so maybe it’s a reference to that!

Could very well be, also I believe that checking that number plate says it is a 1995 Toyota Land cruiser, sooo maybe just one number off assuming it had those plates from its Frist rego?

I guess so.

Come to think of it, that very same vehicle seemed to make an appearance at the start of the 45 Second “Who’s Who of News” Promos in 2003-04 (quickly capped that from @tvcl’s upload, so full credit to him for this):

A bit blurry, but I think you can just make out “TCN-008” on the number plate!

Yeah it wouldn’t surprise me if the vehicles parked in your pic have been retired (or no longer used on a daily basis at the very least), especially the quarter of a century old Landcruiser!
