TV History - Questions

You left out the early 1970s/ Today Show from
ATN7 and HSV7 :ok_hand:

I was referring to Nine.

P.s. there was also Channel 10’s Today in Adelaide.

Does anyone know exactly when WIN News Tasmania became a hour-long bulletin, in a clear attempt to rival Southern Cross’ high-rating statewide bulletin?

Probably at the same time when Channel Nine switched to One Hour News in 2014.

Southern Cross News in Tasmania switched to an hour-long bulletin in February 2014, a month after WIN News Tasmania had switched. Like with WIN’s move being in-line with Nine, Southern Cross’ move was in-line with Seven News moving to 1-hour in Sydney, Melbourne & Brisbane.

Does anyone know the history of the WWF/E on TV in Australia prior to FOXTEL getting the rights. I know in the late-2000s they had some presence on FTA when 9 picked up one of the international recap shows (WWE Afterburn) in 2008 and then in 2010 ONE HD picked up WWE Experience which was another recap show. But was there anything on FTA in the 80s or 90s?

Channel 10 started carrying WWF wrestling matches in 1985, usually a one hour recap show on Thursday nights. They even screened the Wrestlemania events in full.

Exact question here. Maybe hard for you guys but let’s just remember it my friends:
When exactly in 1999 did 7 officially dropped “golden” version of 1989 logo and introduced “5-color stripes” in their graphics?
Also, when did concept about 7’s rebranding in 2000 started take place? I think this was sometimes in late 1990s and further accelerated with the introduction of 5 stripes graphics lol.

Sometime around April/May. Think it was a staggered relaunch, because some of the Station IDs (the ones which ended with a shot of an eye then the slogan/logo/colored bars on a black background) were airing a bit before other elements from the package made it to our screens.

That said, the general On-Air Presentation package still made it on-air a while before the updated look for Seven Nightly News/Today Tonight…which was talked about in the press as far back as the end of May but wasn’t seen on-screen until the 2nd half of June!

There was no warning / knowledge prior to the changeover on Midnight 1st Jan 2000 that the logo would change / that the rebranding would occur. Some stations (TVW at the very least, maybe others) didn’t update their news graphics with the new logo for weeks after.

I mean the rebranding project lol (it would finish in early 2000 as you said)

AFAIK Melbourne also still ran the old Seven Nightly News Opener on 1/1/2000 but had changed it by Australia Day. Sydney & Brisbane had the new logo in their news graphics on launch day, while I’ve got no idea about Adelaide.

In any case, the Early 2000 Seven Nightly News graphics/titles would’ve been among some of the shortest lived in Australian TV history as the name was changed to Seven News on February 14.

So not every news service adopted the new ribbon logo?

it was late in May 1999 launching with the new slogan “The One To Watch” and when they started putting the watermark on screen during programs.

I remember moving from Newcastle to Adelaide in late 1999 (was 7 at the time), and my earliest memory of channel seven Adelaide was having the ribbon logo, and I thought that it was “a lot different” to the Sydney channel seven lol. Wouldn’t find out till years later that they were technically the same TV station

If you’re not already following Rhett on Twitter or YouTube I would question your interest in television nostalgia! He’s finding some real gems.

I remember seeing a 7mate ident/promo around 2013 that used Flo Rida’s “Let It Roll” in the background. Does anyone happens to have a video of it?

Was ‘We’ve Got Magic to Do Just For You’ used by ATV-0?

Hi, How long was people court’s on Channel 7?

no full shows, but wide world of sports would show matches - i remember they showed quite a few matches from wrestlemania XI over the course of the show one day - i distinctly remember watching the Diesel vs Shawn Michaels (with pamela anderson ringside) match and LT vs Bam Bam Bigelow.

I also recall seeing the Wrestlemania 2 main event on TV (Hulk Hogan vs King Kong Bundy in a steel cage) and being repulsed by the blood
