TV History - Questions

Foxtel had the rights by this time but Ten had a 1hr recap show in the late 90s WWF Superstars.

Nice of Ten to move their PRG logo

Nine had a 1hr WCW recap show around the same time. Not sure when it started.

this started approx 1994 (IIRC) as a show for mexico showcasing the mexican talent. after about a year it turned into a recap show and was sold internationally. (this is what i vaguely remember from when i read the excellent book the death of WCW by Bryan Alverez)

in an era when Channel [V] had non-music shows in its lineup aimed at a youth audience. The Dudesons was another non-music show they aired.

Does anyone know the history of MTV in australia?

Wikipedia is notoriously unreliable but this might shed some light on the issue

Can anyone look up any of the videos about Channel [V]?

Did any network in Australia take any inspiration from the BBC News graphics from 1999?

Did any of the regionals ever go full on American ACTION NEWS back in the day?

Not that I know of.
Regional areas didn’t see a lot of “action” so it probably wasn’t a great fit.
They were mostly branded as (station name) “Local News” or “News”.

I wonder if ATV-10(or TEN-10) had exclusivity on the Action News Theme in Australia.

In theory all news is now “action news” depending on how loose you want to be with the definition of the term.

Neither of these use the theme, but I get the same kind of vibes from them, especially the RTQ one.

The regionals didn’t, but NWS in Adelaide did.

Hi Team,

Just wondering if anyone could share or post a link to any photos of the old TEN-10 studios at North Ryde?

Thanks!

Here’s a few that I got over the years.

Thanks!

Now apartment towers with attached swimming pool, North Ryde Metro station and part of M2 motorway.

The only reference to the land is a street called “Network Place”.

How many studios did it have?

What year did TEN vacate the complex?

Think they vacated 1991/92. Can’t remember exactly.

Interesting thing about the place was whenever they were built (1965?) the studios were the first purpose built in the country with other networks occupying buildings with previous uses.

It was a full production studio with soundstages. Maybe 2. I went to see ridgy didge there when I was a kid.

When it was Global Studios many productions came from there. I also think they filmed poorly rated drama Above the Law there. First few seasons of Australia Idol came from there as did thst afternoon show with Bridget Duclos and Greg Evans.
