Nine had a 2 point win on Monday though Nine slipped by one point on the previous week. Seven and 10 improved their shares with ABC and SBS both down slightly.
Seven News was narrowly the number won show based on average audience. Second ranked Married At First Sight slipped +100k from Sunday’s record audience while Idol was down 80k and Survivor down by 30k.
Compared to the previous week, Married’s broadcast audience was down 100k while Idol improved 40k and Survivor slipped 20k.
Later The Hundred was again dominant over Kitchen Nightmares.
The 9Network claimed four of Australia’s Top 5 programs of the night with People 25-54 as Married at First Sight, 9News, A Current Affair and The Hundred with Andy Lee combined to drive the network to a convincing Tuesday win.
Married at First Sight was Australia’s No. 1 program by reach, screening to a National Total TV Reach of 2.265 million - 838,000 viewers ahead of its nearest competitor.
Married at First Sight recorded a Total TV National Audience of 1.295 million - up 4.9% year-on-year and more than half a million viewers ahead of its nearest competitor.
Married at First Sight was well ahead of all opposition across the country, winning its timeslot in all metro capitals. It was the No. 1 program with Total People across the 5 City and in Sydney and Melbourne. It was also the No. 1 program with People 25-54 in all metro capitals.
Married at First Sight continues to be Australia’s dominant BVOD program, with last night’s episode recording a BVOD audience of 278,000 on 9Now - up 26.1% on the corresponding episode last year.
The Hundred with Andy Lee won its late night slot in all metro capitals and registered a Total TV National Audience of 646,000 - up 14.1% year-on-year.
9News was the No. 1 news service with Total People in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
A Current Affair was too strong for all opposition at 7.00pm, recording a National Total TV Reach of 1.586 million and a Total TV National Audience of 969,000. It was the No. 1 program with Total People in Brisbane.
Tipping Point won the battle of the afternoon game shows in Melbourne and Brisbane. It recorded a National Total TV Reach of 1.115 million and a Total TV National Audience of 545,000 - lifting the timeslot by 34.7% when compared to the corresponding day last year.
Today recorded a National Total TV Reach of 768,000 and was the No. 1 breakfast program in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
The 9Network was No. 1 across the 5 City Metro and in Sydney, Melbourne & Brisbane with all key demos and Total People. In Adelaide and Perth, the 9Network was No. 1 with People 25-54 and 16-39.
9Now was Australia’s No. 1 CFTA BVOD service with People 25-54 (55.6%), 16-39 (59.3%), GS 18+ (53.2%) and Total People (53.4%).
Note that these are broadcast TV numbers. That may sometimes lead to PR releases seeming to differ as to which program won a market if the network is using Total TV numbers that included live BVOD.
I wonder if yesterday’s storm in Melbourne, which caused up to 530,000 premises to lose power (half of it is still in the dark as I write this), would have any impact on the ratings?
There would have been many people who went online to catch up on the latest episodes of MAFS, Survivor and Idol late last night and today.
Has TP gone down this week, namely metro broadcast? Wonder why the sudden big jump for Chase in Sydney?
I also questioned the same in the analysis thread last night, it can’t have not had some impact, be it negligible or significant (which we will never know).
Thanks for continuing to include the 5-City figures.
The trend for Tipping Point AU (9) against The Chase AU (7) is fascinating. Looks like we’ll be able to appraise the entire month of February on the first of March.
Yes we will… if the moderator could please amend the ratings for the start of the month by adding the 5 city figures to two days:
– Thursday, 1 Feb 2024
– Friday 2, Feb 2024
Thanking you (TV.Cynic ) in anticipation of a positive result to my polite request.
In metro areas at 6pm Nine Melbourne had fewer viewers to last Tuesday by Seven 30,000 had more. MAFS was down 30k in Melbourne but also in other markets while Idol lost 20k and Survivor 10k.
Ratings in regional Victoria were largely unaffected with Seven News the number one show up on the previous week, MAFS was also up slightly.
Quite predictable really. Viewers sampled the new product but realised it’s not as good as the old product so they went back to tried and trusted product.
Latest economic data shows 55-65 have the most available funds and the biggest increase in discretionary spending while all younger groups have fallen substantially.
Might be time to change the targets demos…
Thanks for that.
The figures assist a strategy I am working on.
I wish I had the Friday 2 Feb figures. However, the trend from now to the end of the month is more important. What is known, so far, is that Tipping Point Australia has passed it’s “peak”.
5-cities (Mainland Capitols):Tipping Point Australia vs. The Chase Australia
Monday 5 Feb 2024 (TPA +2,000)
Tuesday 6 Feb 2024 (TPA +27,000)
Wednesday 7 Feb 2024 (TPA +10,000)
Thursday 8 Feb 2024 (TPA -7,000)
Friday 9 Feb 2024 (TPA -14,000)
Monday 12 Feb 2024 (TPA -48,000)
Tuesday 13 Feb 2024 (TPA -42,000)
East Coast - Sydney, Melbourne Brisbane (SMB):Tipping Point Australia vs. The Chase Australia
Monday 5 Feb 2024 (TPA +36,000)
Tuesday 6 Feb 2024 (TPA +60,000)
Wednesday 7 Feb 2024 (TPA +47,000)
Thursday 8 Feb 2024 (TPA +16,000)
Friday 9 Feb 2024 (TPA +19,000)
Monday 12 Feb 2024 (TPA +4,000)
Tuesday 13 Feb 2024 (TPA +3,000)
5-cities: Tipping Point AU --now behind The Chase AU
3-cities (SMB): Tipping Point AU’s lead over The Chase AU has shrunk to a wafer thin number.
The ratings figures for Wednesday, 14 Feb 2024 could be “telling”.
If Tipping Point AU (9) drops below The Chase AU (7) for 3-cities (SMB), the former can be deemed a strategic failure by NINE. With 88 episodes left “in the can”, boastful promotions will not lift TPA ratings appreciably .
