When it comes to women’s cricket Triple M only has the rights to T20 internationals. In light of that, they were very lucky that their first game was the one where Australia retained the Women’s Ashes.
Whitney Plowman, previous producer on Molloy and Rush Hour, is back at Triple M working on the Marty Sheargold Show.
Has she been heard on air yet? Marty has mentioned her in the few times I’ve listened.
She’s obviously not fully replacing Loren Barry’s on air role.
And given the 50 over games were at North Sydney, Junction Oval and Bellerive (venues where there aren’t a lot of media facilities to begin with or in the case of Hobart, expensive to get to for just one match), where the T20s are at the SCG, Manuka and Adelaide Oval (where facilites are plentiful and easier to get to in the case of Canberra). Probably could have used a digital or app platform to do the D/N test but with the series done I suppose the interest probably wouldn’t make it commercially viable.
According to Sunday Herald Sun’s Fiona Byrne, Dale Thomas will co-host Rush Hour with Billy Brownless (in Victoria, Tasmania, SA and WA) from Tuesday, January 28, until the start of the AFL season, while James Brayshaw takes a break after covering cricket for Triple M and Seven over the summer. Thomas had also filled in for Brayshaw last year.
And also was one of the interim hosts on breakfast after Marty Sheargold left the time slot suddenly last year.
He’s a regular fill-in now on Triple M. I hope he gets a full time gig one day.
Given the amount of time Jing has off the Rush Hour in the year, he should be the first-choice fill-in.
From Radioinfo:
From this afternoon Tuesday January 28, and for an undisclosed future, those tuning into Triple M’s Rush Hour for the drive home, in South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and of course Victoria, will hear Billy Brownless, as per usual, with his regular co-host James ‘JB’ Brayshaw replaced by Dale ‘Daisy’ Thomas.
The strange thing about this decision is that JB returned to the airwaves with Billy last week. Coming back for a couple of days and then deciding you need a break, especially in what is their first ratings season in all other states than Victoria, is highly unusual.
Dude is probably burnt out. I don’t blame him. What would make more sense is to just have Marty on nationally until the AFL season.
He’s been doing this for the past 4 years I reckon. Previously the show wouldn’t start back until March but they’ve been doing a January start since 2022 with JB doing the first week before taking a break until March.
Interesting to note that the wording of the article has been updated as follows:
This is just another example of the poor quality journalism the author has been showing in several other articles on Radio Info. It’s become a common theme lately for the author to publish her own opinion or assumptions as fact.
That wouldn’t be good for brand consistency. There’s plenty of sport and other topics to discuss/guests to interview, other than AFL.
And besides, if Billy is contracted and able to work then there are plenty of people who could co-host with him whilst JB takes a break.
It’s not a sports talk station it’s Rock skewed AC with comedy
I never said it’s a sports talk station. That’s what SEN is for. What I meant was that every day The Rush Hour speaks to sports stars from various sports. And often those interviews go down the funny side, they are not intended to be serious.
In any case, the Rush Hour’s high ratings suggest the format is popular with listeners.
… and cricket/football coverage and overnight talkback.
The turducken of Australian radio. Or Haggis, if you’re of Scottish heritage.
It’s the most popular radio show in the serious head trauma department at the Royal Melbourne.
I like both shows, but face it: Marty couldn’t get above a 6 in breakfast, while Rush Hour smashed the station average consistently in 2024.
Put them on breakfast then and see how well they do.
