Triple M Network

I’ve listened to regional MMM when away in regional Victoria and found it to be terrible. The metro playlist is also repetitive but the regional MMM stations just play rubbish.

I found 4MMM’s playlist from about 3-4 ago was fantastic, then they just took the same as Sydney and Melbourne and now it’s ultra repetitive.

I find the regionals unlistenable at times.

For the last decade the only time I listen to MMM in Sydney is when they are playing ads.

The Music. The Sport. The “Comedy”. Switch.

Looks like no national Summer Breakfast this year. IIRC, Candice Warner and a couple of others hosted a program during December over the last two years.

I tested 3MMM for about 5 mins this morning and heard 2 songs in a row so figured there was no show.

I then listened to 3AW instead (Ross and Rus still on for another week I guess).

Was there any host or was it just music?

Matty O covering 6-9.

I’m not too proud to say that I was disappointed to not get the nod to continue next year, but that is just all part of it and like you all, I’ll be tuning into Mick In The Mornings from Jan 20.”

I’d rather fill my ears with cement than listen to that show again.

So, an artist Triple M doesn’t play, and an artist Triple M doesn’t play enough of…

It’s because I like rock that metro Triple M isn’t for me. The rock Triple M metros play is safe and ultra repetitive, and is actually more classic hits than real rock. If you really love rock, Rebel FM or Power 100 are the real rock stations. They put Triple M to shame.

Yes they do, I agree

A quick pole before Cliff Reeves finishes up next week. Across the Triple M network , the best announcers in the business.

Cliff Reeves (WA regional drive)
Dave Williams (Melb mornings)
Bryan Coglan - Cogo (Bendigo breakfast)
Rod Maldon - Gold Coast mornings
Luke Bona - graveyard nights

‘It’s good to be wanted’: Mark Geyer in demand after Triple M dumping

Geyer spoke to the Daily Telegraph this week, where he said of his unceremonious dumping: “I’d rather not discuss it. I wish the new team the best of luck,” before explaining the opportunities the dismissal has afforded him, including time to run his gym, podcasting, and public speaking appearances.

“Breakfast radio is good money but it’s not about money, it’s about opportunity and now I have a lot of opportunities,” he said.

“Working so long at one radio station was fantastic and now I have a couple of nibbles, a couple of solid leads from other media outlets. It’s good to be wanted.”

While Leisel and Liam are joining Triple M Gold breakfast show next year alongside Peter Everitt (see Gold Coast Radio thread), Ben Dobbin posted on Instagram last week that he is heading to a nightly program with Triple M Brisbane in 2025.

Something’s not quite adding up with this whole apparent ‘unceremonious dumping’.

With talent contracts on a calendar year, negotiations are typically under way by August.

News broke of Geyer not being re-signed by Triple M on the 20th of November. Articles state Geyer was ‘blindsided’ by his ‘abrupt’ dumping.

How can there be any element of surprise or shock if you’re two weeks from your contract ending and you haven’t negotiated a new one yet?

There’s really only 3 scenarios:

  1. Geyer, in fact, knew he didn’t have a new deal for 2025 onwards, but figured it’d be better for his image and future prospects to play the victim card.

  2. Geyer had a new deal in place which was rescinded by SCA at the last minute. Though, you’d assume this would’ve been reported rather than the ‘blindsided’ angle.

  3. Geyer and his management team forgot his Triple M contract was coming to an end and were in fact genuinly blindsided by the news that he wasn’t coming back for 2025+.

What does that mean for Nights With Dave Gleeson?

Or is Brisbane producing a regional night show again similar to Dave Ferrier’s from a few years ago? (when Gleeson was a metro only show).

I’m hoping it’s 4MMM only for Dobbo. Nobody in NSW really knows (nor cares) who he is.

I reckon 2MMM and 4MMM could potentially have an evening sports show (similar to Nine Radio’s WWOS). That’d be a good idea - wrapping up all the Marty comedy with NRL talk.

Don’t they already have The Rush Hour for that? (which is Drive but now a shared NSW/QLD one).

Can’t see them doing more sport after that.

They don’t have any rush hour anymore in QLD or NSW it’s Marty sheargold
