2Day did with Dan and Maz, and also with a solo host in Jamie Angel, they were unknowns, neither of those worked out.
I agree unfortunately that Sydney and Melbourne listeners seem to want big name personalities in breakfast radio. And the ad spend there makes them viable eg K&JO
The size of the deals ARN did for Kyle & Jackie O and Christian OâConnell suggests this isnât quite the case - I canât imagine that Nine Radio or Nova are paying scraps for their metro breakfast talent either.
The problem is that SCA needs their breakfast shows in their largest markets firing to drive the financial performance of the station, and when youâre in that position the people running the station (and often the broader company) donât have much of a tolerance for trying to build an audience.
Good radio is no longer about producing quality output, rather itâs about trying to maximize the returns
Its not just about Melbourne, a higher profile combination like Hughesy & Kate will create a show that can be networked across the regionals and create a new franchise podcast for Listnr.
They need to create a show that works on multiple platforms to attract the broader advertising base.
Also iâm a little confused as to which Triple M stations broadcast the 8pm Friday NRL matches. Seems more often than not here in Newcastle we only get the 6pm Friday match and its only occasionally the 8pm game as well
Regionals have the rights for the Brisbane broadcasts - so if itâs a Queensland game at 8pm the regionals can take it. For example:
Friday 6pm - Sharks vs Raiders - network has the rights
Friday 8pm - Broncos vs Tigers - Brisbane broadcast so 4MMM is host broadcaster and regionals have the rights.
On the subject of NRL broadcasts. What other affiliates do their own calls? Or is it only Newcastle for Knights games? And do Newcastle calls get heard elsewhere?
Triple M Townsville and other stations around NQ get the âCowboys Call Teamâ.
Mix in Canberra also have their own local calls.
Titans games are broadcasted across QLD and the regional network but are produced by 4MMM if they arenât in their allocated 4 games a week. (Same as Broncos and Dolphins).
Seems Triple M Brisbane have a bit of a dilemma this Saturday.
As they not only have Riverfire coverage scheduled from 7pm (to which they run the audio soundtrack of), but also have coverage of the QLD v QLD NRL derby match happening at Suncorp Stadium between the Broncos and Dolphins from 5.30pm.
Suspect the NRL game entirely or the second half of it will be moved onto to DAB+ only at half-time, so as not to clash or overlap with the fireworks starting.
any one having issues with listn3r it seem the sydney stream drops out all the time so i have to load melbourne or brisbane and they do the same if i try to load the same station after drop out it takes ages to reconnect its not an issue at my end as streaming the same stations through digitalradioplus.com.au seems to stream better i cant stand the listn3r site i miss streaming throught the triple m websites like back in the day
9 arenât showing either of the Saturday afternoon games this week anyway, but are airing the 7.35pm one between Sharks and Warriors straight after the fireworks conclude.
I usually watch Riverfire fireworks from in my street when Iâm home, have to walk about up the street,100 meters slightly uphill to where I have a direct view of Brisbane CBD ,and listen to Triple M (LiSTNR App)on my phone for the soundtrack. Other nearby residents usually do the same.
I was listening for a while yesterday and theyâre still giving away passes for theirâRockstar Loungeâ to view the fireworks up close.
