Triple M Network

Probably from Triple M studios in Brisbane.

So how does The Masked Singer and another production continue in Melbourne yet Hot Seat is denied filming?

If the restrictions and double standards weren’t enough already, there’s the lure of lots of empty production space and empty booking sheets north of the Murray at present.

Eddie really is everywhere

Wonder if he’ll still be on FOX Footy as well whilst in QLD?

I have a feeling Marty Sheargold will pop up on MMM next year either as part of Hot Breakfast or Moonman. Either full time or as a weekly guest.

I think you might be right. At least as a guest or to fill in here and there.

ABC Sydney (DAB) showing the likes of Triple M how an entertaining serious music program is done.

Evenings Host Sarah McDonald had Killing Heidi’s Ella Hooper in the studio tonight talking about ā€œrock chicksā€ and talking about those artists who inspired her and playing some of those tracks.

THAT’S what I think Triple M should do a lot more of.

Good. It’s a programming feature that ABC Sydney nights has been running since at least the previous era of host Chris Bath.

Just an observation, I would say Triple M is sounding better than it ever has in terms of the playlist for both metro & regional streams. It’s just focused in a good way

Good for you. I’d disagree.

@AJ1 and Rebel Rock May disagree.

@Brianc68 may disagree and has in the past provided examples of better rock programming overseas.

I agree it’s much more listenable at the moment.

Thought I’d have a listen and yes it’s sounding better than it has for a long long time. When they are playing music it does seem a lot more focused. I still think there are better options out there but it’s a step in the right direction in Brisbane at least. They’re currently playing Baba O’Reilly / The Who which is a big thumbs up from me. I’ve been able to listen for a solid hour or two this morning.

Yeah I agree. It’s finally focussed on rock even on the regional stations too so finally the network does have synergy for the first time since the national re-brand.

Also makes sense running ā€œRocks Greatest Hitsā€ nation wide as the HIT network is skewing more older anyway so there’s little benefit for SCA having the regionals run with their previous Classic Hits/Greatest Hits formats.

Oh yeah, there are a stack more better options. Triple M Hard n Heavy for one. Local stations like Andrew Haug & The Faction are also cool.

I’ve never been a Triple M listener, always stuck on the J’s just for new music, but now I’m 45, grew up with Thrash, Grunge, Nu-Metal, Metalcore…the music on Triple M has always been the same crap, but I think it’s freshened, at least they’re adding stuff like Corey Taylor or The Pretty Reckless, for Triple M that’s new territory but it sounds great.

Any chance of a summary?

You get rid of a comic who can bring some funny, the ability to break the ice & segue, there’s a massive hole. You saw it with Trevor on the Footy Show, suddenly non-comics are trying to be funny or we end up with cheap slapstick (Crawford & Brownless) - doesn’t work.

The first thing I suggested with the listener survey, was to get a comic or a rotating list of up & coming comics. I’m sure listeners would like to at least hear them have a go instead of a long winded Eddie interview with the PM which they could get at the ABC if they wanted.

Give them a reason to listen, there isn’t any atm

Yeah - sorry, should have included it originally: Mainly speculation that this could be the Hot Breakfast’s last year (depending on the ratings that are coming up), contracts of McGuire and Darcy up for negotiations at end of year (allegedly).

Ended with a reference that McGuire didnt work Friday - he said it was an ā€œRDOā€

I’d be wagering (I know I’m prob a broken record) on Marty Sheargold being involved, either as the 7-9am comic, or his own show like his buddy Moonman. If it’s as the show comic, he could also do spots on Moonman.

It would be interesting to see what the initial plan was for 2020 - listening to their podcasts, they were a little wanting to start the year, but since the pandemic I think they’ve done well as they’ve pivoted.

As an non Melbournite, I’ve found their coverage quite good - although they nearly lost me last week with their week of ā€œopinionsā€ about the current state of play.
