Triple M Network

It’s about time this station looked into the future instead of always looking back to past glories. Sure, that was a wild time 40 YEARS AGO. I’m 45 & was 5 years old in 1980 - who the fuck cares

With the Hit Network changing Station Names, I think it’s Time Perth’s Mix 94.5 to swap Affiliations hit Hit 92.9 to join the Triple M Network and Rebranding as Perth’s 92.9 Triple M playing Rock Music and Mix 94.5 becoming an Adult CHR in line with the Eastern State Capitals.

Yeah probably not. Triple M has a bad name over there. They changed 96FM to Triple M in the 90’s & it went down like a lead balloon.

I think enough time has passed. Although, Triple M gets mentioned so much on Mix 94.5, it would be weird for 92.9 to suddenly become Triple M. They’re going for the nostalgia angle with the new Hit format. I still think reviving PMFM would go well for 92.9. PMFM was an absolute powerhouse in the 90s.

The delay at the moment is the crossover in music between the new Hit network format and what Mix currently plays. So they’re either going to rebrand Mix 94.5 as Triple M, making it more rock/male skewed, before rebranding 92.9 to whatever they’re gonna call it. Or, they will do as suggested, rebrand 92.9 to Triple M, and then switch Mix 94.5 to the Hit format (which I think would be very confusing for the listeners, due to having to switch breakfast and drive shows, etc).

The answer is so obvious and was mentioned earlier when the remaining rebrand happened.

Mix94.5 to join the Hit Network and Hit92.9 to become Triple M.

SCA would be mad to touch anything too significant to the top rating Mix station. They cannot afford to damage such a heritage station.

The big question will remain - what happens with networked shows? Putting Carrie, Tommy, Hughesy & Ed onto Mix and replacing their local drive show would not be a good thing. SCA should do what 96FM does and just take an hour or so of the networked shows.

As for the “damaged” Triple M brand in Perth, I think it’s clear that SCA are ignoring that at times with Triple M branded digital stations, along with Triple M Football branding already present in Perth. If the brand had a bad name, there would be bigger backlash by now.

Also didn’t help that 96.1 Triple M had the Today Network format.

Could also move the existing Mix shows over to Triple M and relaunch Mix breakfast, perhaps the new Regional WA breakfast show?

That hasn’t stopped them using all the Triple M branded shows on 94.5. I understand the Triple M name gets used all the time on air.

Triple M only failed because they took the Today format rather than rock format of the east, which was essentially what PMFM was playing. In the first few years, I think breakfast was networked from over east and they dropped Skyshow, which PMFM ended up getting the rights to. Once the Triple M Network became a duopoly with the Today Network, they basically gave up on the station and ended up selling 96.1 to Southern Cross and picked up the more powerful 92.9/94.5 combo. As mentioned above, enough time has passed since that era.

Mix doesn’t have a local drive show. It’s just a regular jock (not a show per se) until 5pm, then Kennedy/Molloy.

I still think it will be confusing for listeners to switch it up like that. It depends why someone listens to Mix. If they’re listening for things like the Footy and shows like Dead Set Legends, K/M, etc, then they hand those listeners to 92.9, if 92.9 becomes the Triple M station. If they’re listening for the music, then they’ll likely stay listening to Mix, but they then have to put up with things like R&B Fridays, and the aforementioned networked drive shows, which they aren’t currently getting on 94.5.

Either way, there is going to be some shuffling of listeners, and some people will be pretty pissed off about it (like when ARN first took over 96FM and made the changes they did). But really, they just need to go ahead and do it. Rip the bandaid off! Make an announcement, and flick the switch on both stations.

Yes, I agree, it would probably be too confusing to switch programs between 92.9 and 94.5.

92.9 could be rebranded as 6PM-FM and stay with Hit programming and 94.5 could still become Triple M.

Oh didnt realise they swapped formats…bright idea that one. Poor old 96FM even ARN had a turn at trashing it while it was riding high

In the last few years it’s been All local on mix till about 2017 then Luke Bona and Kennedy Molloy came on.

Regional Triple M WA broadcasts Luke Bona live.

As for day times on mix before K and M it’s usually Tim Lordan and Elissa Macneall but always wondered why does Tim get 3 hours and Elissa gets 5 hours?

I miss Ross Edwards even tho he’s now doing a role on the DAB network of Triple M

Bruce Springsteen’s show, “From My Home To Yours”, will be heard on Triple M on Saturday nights, commencing tomorrow (August 8). It will also be heard on Triple M Soft Rock at 8-10am Sundays.

I like the concept (whilst not new) of music stars hosting proper music programs, as opposed to generic voice tracked shifts that you hear on Smooth from artists like Rod Stewart.

Please Triple M Bring Back this station:

I was gutted when Modern Rock Digital was removed in 2016.

Triple M 90s is playing more newer music than “Modern” Triple M ever did.

The original Modern Rock incarnation was fairly modern if memory serves - it was the second incarnation (as Triple M Modern Digital) that went a bit off the rails. Way too tight on the new stuff, then they started mixing in a whole lot of 80s new wave which, while I’m not complaining, didn’t fit the brief.

I’d like to see a MMM 80s station on DAB (80s rock of course, though I wouldn’t object to some of the new wave on it).

If I had a magic wond, how good would it be to have a DAB triple station that you could turn on and leave on with a massive playlist, no repetition and live announcers. Everything from capital city, classic rock, 90’s, easy rock & country.

What about Triple M Alternative with a bit of Indie Rock?
