In 2024, One Night Stand hit new heights. The first ever triple j One Night Stand kicked off 20 years ago in the small town of Natimuk, Victoria. From the country to the coast, triple j has taken the One Night Stand to towns like Alice Springs (2010), Port Pirie (2006), Dubbo (2013), Geraldton (2016), Mount Isa (2017) and St Helens (2018), and brought artists like Flume, The Jungle Giants, Tkay Maidza, A.B Original, and heaps more along for the ride.

Copeland was instrumental in the launch of hip-hop station CADA.

That’s not something I would have on my resume.

Vale Arnold Frolows

It is poignant that in the lead up to a celebration this weekend to mark fifty years of Double J that Arnold Frolows, so important to the set up and sound of the station, died on Sunday January 12 after only being diagnosed with pancreatic and liver cancer a month ago.

Arnold Frolows

The ABC is saddened to hear of the passing of Arnold Frolows at the age of 74.

As a founding member of 2JJ, he was instrumental in shaping the music landscape for young Australians.

Frolows began as a presenter and producer on the new 2JJ in 1975.

After a period away, he returned to the network in 1981 when it had become triple j.

Frolows became triple j Music Director in 1993 while continuing to present and produce programs on throughout the 1990’s and early 2000’s.

After finishing with triple j in 2003, Frolows continued to forge new paths for audio at the ABC. He became a key figure in the ABC’s digital radio expansion and was music director for ABC digital radio for several years.

This Sunday marks 50 years since 2JJ first went to air. It will be timely opportunity to remember Arnold’s legacy.

Arnold is survived by his partner Christine King and remembered dearly by colleagues across the ABC.

Double J will mark anniversary of triple j with a 12 hour rebroadcast of that first day.

Double J celebrates the 50th anniversary of triple j on January 19 with a special 12 hour rebroadcast of the first day of the station that started it all — 2JJ, Double Jay Rock!

triple j’s story began at 11am on January 19, 1975 in studio 206 at the ABC in Sydney.

Beaming out across the city on 1540Khz was the banned Skyhooks song 'You Just Like Me ‘Cos I’m Good In Bed’ and behind the mic was former 2SM DJ Holger Brockmann.

Holger will join us on the 50th anniversary to introduce and provide context for this historic replay. You’ll also hear the first shifts from Chris Winter, Ivan Walker, Graham Berry and Bob Hudson, as well as comedy skits, news bulletins, surf reports, live concerts and more

Listen to it unfold on Sunday January 19 to Double J from 11am to 11pm, with a special simulcast on triple j for a couple of hours from 11am.

Double J is on DAB+ digital radio, Channel 200 on your TV and the on the ABC listen and triple j apps or your home smart speaker.

It’s great that they’re doing this. Might record it for posterity as it sounds like they are going to play the airchecks unedited. There’s not much of the original 2JJ out there.

Now if this ushers in a format reboot for the modern Double J, it would be even better.

Gold fm? :joy:

I guess some of the songs would be considered Pure Mold these days, but I’m sure they played some alternative as well, maybe even some prog rock. I honestly have no idea what they played in 1975 since that was well before my time and there have been no airchecks posted on the web.
