Do we have anyone here that likes looking at flight trackers?
I like putting in the flight number and seeing the variations of the actual flight path in recent days (which is impacted by weather and other things) and seeing how much of a delay there is between estimated/actual departure and arrival times.
Flightradar can be handy for FM DX purposes as well, if you know where aircraft are likely to reflect certain signals. For example, an aircraft flying at high altitude over the Riverina will likely reflect signals from Griffith and/or Swan Hill into Bungendore.
Not really - sites like FlightAware rely on installations like I have to populate their services. Its not something I talk a lot about, I need to maintain a reasonable level of nerd
Itâs not hard to get a site setup (although getting a Raspberry Pi for a reasonable price is hard so it becomes a little expensive) - they even give you a good set of instructions to get started:
Currently in WA, I loved being able to watch the sunset over the ocean! Photo below taken at North Beach in Perth. Weather has been good so far too! Even though today is supposed to be wet, but should pass over quickly.
Cut NSW off with a hacksaw like we wanted to do to VIC in 2020 when COVID was running rife causing people to sneak across the border giving us the heebees?
I think the rest of the country probably would have paid good money to return the favour to us NSWers back in 2021 too though lol
I guess if you were to build a big enough dam on the Murray somewhere near Mildura youâd end up with a decent enough sized lake to at least emulate that feeling of the sun setting over the ocean.
Cape Liptrap would be the best option in VIC (have a look at a map; thereâs plenty of ocean to the west due to the âGulf of Melbourneâ). Also the western parts of Wilsonâs Prom, though they are a bit less accessible.

Joyce also announced the airline had approved orders for 24 new widebody aircraft, a mix of Airbus A350s and Boeing 787s that will arrive from 2027. The aircraft are designed to replace its current A330 and Airbus A380 aircraft.
