A number of the Qld routes they fly had some sort of government subsidy to offset what would be loss makers.
Those routes are run under contract with the Qld Government
Qantas and Jetstar will be the first airlines to fly domestically from Sydneyâs new $5.3 billion airport in the cityâs west.
The deal involves basing five Qantas and 10 Jetstar aircraft at the Badgerys Creek site, within its first year of operating.
The planes will fly domestic routes to destinations including Melbourne, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast.
Virginâs Velocity Frequency Flyer launched their 1 Point Rewards online this evening. The launch has caused the online store to crash due to the overwhelming demand.
Iâm sorry but thatâs a bs excuse. Surly after yesterdayâs pop-store in Melbourne showed how popular itâd be, extra resources shouldâve been called to make sure all runs smoothly.
Certainly isnât the first time something like this has happened, and it certainly wonât be the lastâŚ
It amazes me that, for all the advances weâve made in the computer world with smarter devices etc over the last 25-30 years, the internet itself is still as unreliable as ever.
Sitting in Sunshine Coast Airport awaiting the Bonza flight back home, departure lounge probably needs expansion if they are looking to establish themselves as the domestic budget airline hub in the South East corner I reckon theyâre positioning themselves to be. Yes thereâs enough space to sit but a distinct lack of tables or seats with some sort of charging area isnât all that helpful. Slightly more food options than Hobart (sushi bar), but Subway and 7Eleven is about 30 minutes walk down the road if you have time and decent legs.
I flew with Qantas to and from Sydney this long weekend for Vivid Festival.
I notice that Qantas terminal at Melbourne Airport has a long overdue redevelopment. The food court area (right behind security) is boarded up as is the bar next to gate 1. Most toilets received an upgrade with new decor and combined tap / soap dispenser / hand dryer sink module.
According to Melbourne Airport website, the redevelopment is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023.
QF have revealed their A350 cabin interior.
Qantas CEO Alan Joyce has said the airline will make radical changes to its future ultra-long haul flights in a way âno other airline in the worldâ can do â and it could see passengersâ jet lag reduced by two or even up to four days.
In another departure from the norm, Qantas has also said it will leave the cabin lights on for the first eight to 10 hours of the flight and then will slowly dim them before lights out.
Again, itâs to prod passengers to reset their body clocks to the arrival time zone.
But, on a flight from New York, it could mean the cabin still being illuminated at 5am US time.
Singapore Airlines is the No.1 airline in the world, ending Qatar Airwaysâ seven-year streak at the top. Qatar Airways is now second.
Not sure itâs the right topic but Iâm waiting to get a velocity frequency flyer platinum Amex and NAB rewards platinum credit card to obviously collect velocity points etc. I also transfer flybuys to velocity and use 7/11.
Does any one have a frequent flyer credit card and is it worth obtaining it?
I have a NAB qantas one. I ran everything though it, as well as making sure i added my FF no to every flight i took. as i flew QF Business to Chicago every 6 or so weeks i racked up a ton of points and status and would frequently upgrade to first class with points (or get a free upgrade with status).
the trick with credit cards is to get one with a good interest free period and pay it off in that time, and run your life though it to rack up the points
Bonza today announced its first route cut. It will axe services from Sunshine Coast to Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour and Tamworth, and flights from Toowoomba to the Whitsundays and Cairns to Mackay, effective from August 1. However the airline will add flights to popular destinations like Melbourne and Albury.
The Albury route will be heavy with snow traffic. Might ease off after that season ends, but then might gain local traffic heading north. Interesting route thatâs for sure.
I reckon a Avalon to Cairns route might work on a seasonal basis.
I would have thought people would be more likely to drive to the snowfields than fly via Albury?
Albury/Wodonga is a bit of a hub for the NE VIC snowfields, though Mount Beauty and Bright are the more popular options. I think Qantas actually flew to Mt Hotham direct at one point? Thereâs still an âairportâ (with a weather station) just below Dinner Plain.
Thereâs plenty of traffic both ways, especially this time of year, with both Queenslanders heading south to the snow (thereâs direct buses from Albury Airport to Falls Creek), and Border residents heading north to escape the cold.
I do suspect that in summer it might not be as popular a route (with the humidity up north and the heat down here), but being as competitively priced as it is itâs still going to be popular especially when alongside the much more expensive Qantas flights to Brisbane.
I do question whether Bonza is going to last though based on thisâŚ
