As part of Federal Budget announced tonight, from July 1, 2024, the ‘Passenger Movement Charge’ for outgoing travellers is going up from $60 to $70. It will be the first increase for the fee since 2017, but the travel industry has been opposed to the change.
Jest a small error.
Can you spot the difference? What difference? Isn’t there usually two pictures to look out. Looks like they used the wrong phrase here.
Oh, those Jetstar jesters!
The new arrangements start next Tuesday (May 23).
But the carrier is accused by the Australian and International Pilots Association (AIPA) of outsourcing pilot jobs to foreign workers after Qantas signed a deal with Finnair to lease two Airbus A330s to be operated by the carrier’s own pilots.
Under the deal, Finnair pilots and cabin crew will operate the flights for the first two and a half years.
From 2025, the Finnair A330s will be operated by Qantas pilots and cabin crew for three years.
Executive Traveller adds that the two Finnair A330s “will operate selected Qantas flights between Sydney and Singapore from late October, and all flights between Sydney and Bangkok from late March 2024.”
Google says hello.
My first tablet (2013) was a Google Nexus tablet.
Only cost $349 back then (7 inch)
I’ve just had a look at the Bonza website out of curiosity. I can’t fathom how they expect to make a profit on routes out of the Scumshine Coast. Whoever has flown from Maroochydore to Mildura, raise your hand.
The slogan is ‘here for Allstralia’…as long as you’re between Caloundra and Noosa, that is. I’d be looking at Canberra as a potential hub; even Newcastle is marginal.
Just noticed the other day that. Qantas has a route from Sydney to Bendigo…another questionable route!
Qantas rarely launches routes that don’t stack up - especially out of Sydney where slots are scarce.
They’ve clearly seen a serviceable market
Not that questionable. Bendigo is far from any other commercial airport and is the centre for a massive area. It’s been going for multiple years so I would assume it’s doing fine. Same concept for Mildura, but even more extremely isolated.
Most commercial activity in Bendigo would pivot towards Melbourne I would have thought? Rail ably serves that market of course. I would have thought Sydney-Bendigo a marginal route, probably serviceable by Rex but certainly not the Red ‘Roo. As you say though, the numbers must stack up.
Is there any commercial aviation out of Ballarat at all? I’m assuming it’s too close to Tullamarine for a full service airport to be viable there. Ballarat and Bendigo are equally important regional centres in VIC.
As a person living in Bendigo most people drive down to Melbourne to fly to Sydney. Not many people use the flight from Bendigo.
Newcastle is in a similar position to Ballarat and Bendigo … we do have an airport here, but it has a lot fewer flights than a similar size city of say Canberra, partially for the reason that people seem to be happy with flying out of Sydney.
It also doesn’t help that parking at Newcastle isn’t cheap and a taxi fare each way is $90 for most residents since it’s an approx. 30 km drive to the airport at Williamtown. A train fare to Sydney airport is a lot cheaper than getting to Williamtown.
Ballarat Airport has no commercial flights unfortunately. People have to go to Avalon or Tulla.
Thanks for confirming that.
Newcastle’s airport wasn’t really built with civvies in mind: it’s a military airport first and foremost. The military builds where it’s cheapest (and often hottest).
Bonza has really changed the game from my point of view. With Affordable pricing heading to QLD. Easy drive and parking and saves me driving 4 hours in the wrong direction to Melbourne Airport to head north.
I would of never considered flying from Mildura with the current prices of Rex and Qantas but Bonza flying to QLD ticked the boxes for me saying that I would never fly Bonza from Mildura to Melbourne. As for my location it just doesn’t make sense. Mildura is 2.5 hours away and Melbourne is 4 and we already 2 daily trains that go to Melbourne for $9.20 pp
