One bulletin tonight said that 17 extra flights from Sydney to Brisbane were scheduled to cater for the extra travel.

Removing Boeing 777s from the Virgin fleet also means the end of the airline’s service to Los Angeles.

Shame about their ‘The Business’ product, which I found to be a quite good product to travel in

The Australian reports regional airline Alliance will buy 14 second hand Embraer 190 planes, which formerly belonged to Copa Airlines in Panama.

*Embraer 190.

Very interesting acquisition. I feel like Alliance may take on, and codeshare (or operate on behalf of) many of VAs intrastate routes, especially in QLD and NSW where 737s are not viable to operate.

I guess they finally ran out of Fokkers to acquire from overseas, at least for now.

I should know the model :stuck_out_tongue: Embraer E-series is one of my favourite passenger planes. I once flew on a Virgin Blue E170 from Melbourne to Canberra a few years ago.

I’ll miss ‘The Business’ on the a330s the most :cry:

This could be useful as a dartboard.

Sounds like they’ll be printed versions of his signature, not “personally signed” as is literally implied.

So tone deaf.

There is a big jump from an ATR to a 737 (68 vs 128) pax wise - I suspect Virgin will try and exit these routes or do a deal with Alliance (maybe not with E190s though, which are about 100 seats)

The title is horrendous clickbait, as if course it’s only referring to VA and not the whole industry.

Meanwhile US citizens can potentially travel - not that any country would let them in.

Advisory for travel to Australia is

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 3 Travel Health Notice for Australia due to COVID-19.

Australia has resumed most transportation options, (including airport operations and re-opening of borders) and business operations (including day cares and schools). Other improved conditions have been reported within Australia.

International commercial flight options currently exist in Australia:

  • United Airlines is operating daily flights from Sydney to San Francisco;
  • Delta Airlines is operating flights from Sydney to Los Angeles three times per week;
  • United Airlines will operate flights from Sydney to Los Angeles three times per week starting September 10, 2020; flights to Sydney will be limited to 50 passengers per flight.

Australia has enacted a travel ban on all non-residents and non-Australian citizens entering Australia. Individuals may request exceptions to the entry restrictions at this link.

US also has advice for travel to New Zealand

After sending their A380 fleet to California last month for deep storage, Qantas will next month send most of their 787 fleet to the Mojave Dessert while the remaining will stay in Australia.

The last flight arrival of a VA 777 into Brisbane received a water cannon salute this morning.

The capital’s airport would start shutting down on Saturdays from August 22 and possibly one other day each week, said chief executive Stephen Byron.

Unusual but expected, given there are very few domestic flights flying in and out of Canberra every day due to the pandemic.
