Rex is set to secure up to 10 ex-Virgin 737 aircraft for their Sydney-Melbourne-Brisbane routes.
No surprise, I think this was very much what was assumed would happen if they went ahead with this proposal - lease the planes for next to nothing so the lessors donāt have to deal with the hassle of storing them / flying them away from Australia to be used elsewhere, and even if things are slow to start Rex will have a customer base from regional flights rather than interlining with Qantas or VA.
They really need to update their website though.
With Alliance also buying new jets (although highly unlikely for this purpose) the market could look very interesting in a couple years time.
I cant wait for the inevitable blowup that Rex has towards an airport
Thinking of flying to Canberra for a holiday? Canberra Airport will now close on Saturdays and it might have to close on more days in future if passenger numbers remain depressed.
Surprised this wasnāt happening already to be honest.
No one should be flying out of their state unless.they have a valid work reason or a valid family reason. I do not see holidays are one of the valid reasons.
STA Travel was founded by two Australian backpackers in Melbourne in 1979 but is now owned by a Swiss-based company.
Who would want to holiday in Canberra? Itās a boring, terrible place. The stereotypes are completely true.
Who wants to see the Brindabellas cloaked in white under a pollution free blue sky anyway? Actually, itās rarely pollution free because of all the bushfire smoke.
Have you got your cranky pants on?
We did a few Canberra weekends on those $20 Tiger flights from Melbourne they had every so often. I couldnāt imagine spending more than 2 days there.
I guess there is no more loco flights out of a Canberra with Tiger gone. This is where Jetstar should step in, but they wonāt, as they need to milk the market via Qantas.
No chance of leisure flights to CBR returning with Tiger gone IMO. QF will never put JQ on the route.
I wonder how many people overseas are risking booking a trip to Australia in June next year.
I have a feeling it will be 2022 before widespread overseas travel recommences. At a minimum the second half of next year. Thatās assuming a successful vaccine is developed. It will take that long for a vaccine to be widely distributed; vaccination is likely to be a prerequisite for international travel.
I went to canberra a few years ago for a little trip. I met a friend from Sydney as we thought it would be a nice halfway point to see something different. I actually really enjoyed my time in canberra.
Nobody could detect the sarcasm? Slow as a @turdall! Canberra is a great place. The disadvantages are the summer heat and you have to enjoy its quieter pace and its natural surroundings. Similar to Hobart with the latter. Itās not the place for you if you crave the hubbub, constant nightlife and a wide variety of cultural attractions; Canberra has these things but they arenāt as abundant as in Melbourne or Sydney. The summer heat is one of the reasons I chose to live in Bungendore as temperatures are a little cooler out here.
I knew someone who just received her package of business class amenities (including pyjamas) from Qantas.
But then Canberra doesnāt get the humidity either.
And doesnāt get extreme 45+ degree heat like other towns and cities can.
I ordered one
Still waiting.
