Is this entire season a road trip? That’s what it looks like from the promo’s.

Yeah they go to Ukraine

It appears so based on the preview episodes.

Update: the USA road trip is just the first 2 episodes.

Against the Shane Warne state memorial telecast? That is bad programming.

Wouldn’t get 100% of viewers since the memorial is on. Bad decision by Nine to choose Travel Guides over Shane Warne

USA episodes are a great watch. Considering the abrupt ending for episode two and no preview for the third episode, I suspect there could be more in the bag, with the episode order dependent on how they rate.

Looks like it will not air in Melbourne on this night, with the main channel screening the Shane Warne state memorial. So Melbourne will be one episode behind unless Nine can find another timeslot thus all states are up to date.

Travel Guides takes off with a brand new season

This is the year to welcome back holidays, coinciding with the 2022 return of Travel Guides on Wednesday at 7.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.

All our favourite travel critics are back: the loveable Fren family, twin cowgirls Stack and Mel, posh retirees Kevin and Janetta, best mates Kev, Dorian and Teng, and travel addicts and longtime couple Matt and Brett.

In the new season our Guides hit the road for a supersized, two-week USA road trip taking them through Texas and the Deep South for a big taste of big hats, big portions and big wheels. But does bigger mean better?

The Guides are then off to traverse our great Southern Land as they take in the beauty of the Twelve Apostles, the wilds of Fraser Island and the sparkles of Noosa, the tall ships of Sydney Harbour, swimming with dolphins off the coast of Western Australia, and the delights of the Great Ocean Road on a week-long, family-friendly road trip that includes a taste of Sovereign Hill in beautiful Ballarat.

They head off the beaten track into the South Australian Outback, exploring the mighty Murray River and fantastic Flinders Ranges, as well as soaking up the best bits of Brisbane – from fine dining to adventure park thrills – for an activity-packed week based in the river city holiday hotspot.

In each episode of Travel Guides , our five groups of critics visit the same location for the same week-long holiday, reviewing the cuisine, accommodation, activities, and tourist sights.

Opinions always differ, leading to brutally honest and often outrageous reviews as our Guides tell it exactly how they see it and rate each holiday out of five stars.

Narrated by popular Aussie comedian Denise Scott, Travel Guides is produced by Nine.

So basically after the American episodes they are just going around Australia? I thought they might’ve been able to go to a few more international destinations during their filming window (post-delta and pre-omicron).

The original promos that started airing a few weeks ago were only seemed to just show Australia. So I’m assuming that they filmed the Australian episodes late last year and then only recently completed the USA episodes, so they’ve last minute thrown them in first.

The US episodes are unaired ‘left over’ from a previous season. 2020 production according to the episode numbers, to be shown in 2021.

Texas was promised in the February 2021 promo, but not delivered.

Tonight’s episode is Sunshine Coast.

The following is a trip to Perth including day trips from the city.

Promo for tonight.

After last night’s Perth episode, the next group of episodes are also in Australia.

Next week is “Flinders Range SA”. The episodes starts in Renmark on houseboats, then there is a long drive to the final destination.

Following that include

Sydney where the travellers ‘live like a local’ i.e. they skip the beaches, that house and that bridge and see the town from another angle.

Great Ocean Road with a drive along the famous road followed by a visit to Ballarat’s historic past. Includes a visit to the “Round The Twist” lighthouse.

Brisbane with the travellers staying near the centre of the city in a luxurious hotel and making short day trips to surrounding tourist attractions - some well known and some obscure.

This show has gone downhill. Some of the recent episodes like Brisbane and Sydney just feel like constant back to back infomercials. It’s just shameless promotions of businesses rather than going to actual common tourist sites or showing much of the locations.

I’m also glad they are looking for new cast members. I’m getting tired of some of the current cast. It needs some fresh faces.

Hopefully next season they’ll be going overseas again because apart from the American episodes the domestic episodes feels like ‘been there, done that, what’s next?’

The ratings also seem to indicate that the shine is starting to wear off the show. It used to be able to pull off 700K behind Married at First Sight but nowadays it’s around 500-600K on average and its demos aren’t too great either.
